Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems on Pueblo of Sandia Enterprises.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintains and repairs all general plumbing components to include toilets, urinals, faucets, hose bibs, and drains.
  2. Installs, maintains and repairs water and drainage systems, plumbing fixtures,ice machines, equipment, faucets, pools, sump pumps, backflows, garbage disposals, and fire suppression systems by inspecting systems, replacing corroded pipes, draining unheated water lines in outdoor facilities and removing backflow preventers to winterize lines, replacing defective piping,cleaning out drains, replacing and repairing defective faucets, toilets, urinals, and installing fixtures, and roughing in waterlines and renovations.
  3. Repairs and replaces domestic hot water heat exchangers.
  4. Repairs and replaces pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and steam and condensate pipes.
  5. Repairs and replaces domestic hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps.
  6. Installs, tests, and repairs all sizes of backflow prevention devices.
  7. Troubleshoots and repairs steam, water, and gas utility distribution systems.
  8. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  9. Troubleshoots non-working fixtures, valves, irrigation systems, and/or lift station pumps in order to identify the nature of the problem and type of repair needed.
  10. Replaces broken fixtures, valves, pumps, controllers, and/or irrigation heads in order to restore restroom, lift station, or irrigation system functionality.
  11. Repairs a variety of plumbing fixtures, valves, swimming pool pumps.
  12. Unplugs fixtures, lines, and related devices in order to restore service.
  13. Installs new piping for HVAC, water, gas as needed.
  14. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
  15. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  1. Knowledge of plumbing principles, practices, and techniques.
  2. Knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and guidelines.
  3. Knowledge of repair principles, practices, and techniques for a variety of standard fixtures, valves, and related items.
  4. Knowledge of operating principles of a variety of plumbing fixtures, valves, and related items, including operating pressures.
  5. Ability to determine the type of repair that is appropriate for various types of plumbing fixtures, valves, pumps, and similar devices.
  6. Ability to troubleshoot a variety of plumbing systems, fixtures, valves, and related items.
  7. Plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair skills.
  8. Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to published guidelines.
  9. Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems maintenance and repair.
  10. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  11. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  12. Ability to read/interpret blueprints, schematic, or exploded views of a variety of plumbing fixtures, valves, pumps, and related items.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

Required:
  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Five (5) years of trades experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  3. The following certification is required prior to employment start date:
    1. Journeyman Plumber License.
  4. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  5. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver's License.

Preferred:
  1. Experience with sprinkler and fire suppression systems.

Licensing Status
  1. Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment, and random drug screening.

Working Conditions
  1. Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  2. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  3. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
