Georgia State boasts one of the largest university police forces in the state with 160 officers across all six Atlanta metro campuses.

The department is accredited and certified by the following organizations; Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement (IACLEA) and the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Program.

The Georgia State University Police Department is seeking a Police Communications Officer I to join the already awesome team in keeping the Police Department at the level of excellence that it has strived to become and sustain.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • This position requires great flexibility since it operates on a 24/7 basis.
  • Various shifts
  • Answers the emergency and non-emergency phones and radios in the police communications center, and dispatches police officers via police radio as the report or complaint dictates.
  • Maintains various logs, and forms of all calls, reports, or complaints according to standard police procedures.
  • Maintains logs, written and computerized via CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) System.
  • Dispatches appropriate personnel for reports of incidents or complaints and/or route the information to the appropriate agencies.
  • Greets the public and provides information about the campus. Receives incoming telephone calls from callers seeking general information about school closures, department hours, etc.
  • Enters and receives data from NCIC/GCIC and check Criminal] History backgrounds for applicants and suspects.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, no felony convictions. Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation and take a pre-employment drug screen.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
  • Prefer six months of dispatcher experience and service experience
  • Knowledge of police dispatch procedures and functions of a police department; Effective oral and written communication skills' Ability to work under stressful situations
  • Ability to work independently and perform assignments through oral and written instructions and /or specific policies and procedures.
