Overview

AARP's Policy, Research and International Affairs leads the development and communication of AARP's public policies and, research and insights on the issues that matter to people 50-plus.

The Policy & Research Manager, Longevity Economy will play a critical role in positioning AARP as the leading authority on the economic value of the 50 + population and the opportunity to create age inclusive societies by highlighting the costs of inaction if society does not address all forms of discrimination. This role will serve a critical role in advancing AARP's leadership in understanding the potential size, scope, and wide-reaching influence of the 50+ market as we build towards an equitable future where people live longer, healthier lives.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a deep subject-matter-expert on issues of importance to the organization. Participates in roundtables, forums and working groups.
  • Develops and works with cross-functional teams to identify the organization's public policy priorities and position. Builds and leverages external relationships to achieve results.
  • Analyzes federal and state legislative and regulatory proposals and provides objective policy analysis to inform national and state debates and the organization's position and engagement.
  • Conducts policy research and analysis to identify opportunities and develop solutions for internal and external audiences. Analyzes secondary and syndicated data and conducts literature reviews to develop insights.
  • Writes reports and recommendations that demonstrate thought leadership and support enterprise objectives. Produces written reports and convenes public meetings to gather information and insights, disseminate findings, share best practices, and advance solutions.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Business, Mathematics, Political Science, or a related field and 5+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of related training and relevant experience.
  • Fluent in the use of data and metrics to explain current trends of global economics, with an emphasis of understanding on how market segments and demographics can influence macro-trends.
  • Proven ability to quickly understand and interpret strategic issues and directions.
  • Ability to collect and analyze information and to edit, write, and speak clearly and persuasively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influence skills to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities and styles; verbal and written presentation skills, with the ability to convey the most important points simply and visually.
  • Familiarity with emerging tools for data visualization strongly desired.
  • Experience managing long-term projects that require meticulous project management or other service-related support and resources.
  • Strong understanding of national and international economic trends and drivers.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
