The J&J IM Discovery, Product Development, & Supply (DPDS) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program helps early career scientists gain the training and experience needed to further their careers while addressing the needs of global healthcare. Postdocs work side-by-side with DPDS scientists on innovative research projects and have the opportunity to present and publish their work. They also learn the functional role of scientists in the pharmaceutical industry and receive valuable career advice from mentors while building a network of professional contacts and developing the skills needed to advance their careers.

The Cell Therapy group of Janssen Therapeutics Discovery seeks an enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow to join the Cell Therapy Gene Editing team, which investigates and implements genetic engineering strategies to enhance the activity of CAR T cells. Your project will use combinatorial pooled screening approaches to discover mechanisms controlling T cell fitness. Success in this project will be enabled by strong molecular and cell biology skills, along with the ability to collaborate well with internal experts in T cell biology, functional genomics, and bioinformatics. Key Responsibilities:

  • Isolating, culturing, and engineering, primary human T cells
  • Evaluating T cell fitness through flow cytometry, scRNA-seq, and other methods
  • Using a variety of molecular engineering approaches (viral transduction, CRISPR, etc) to screen for functional biology
  • Collaborating with internal colleagues to successfully meet project goals


Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Genetics or a related discipline
  • Degree must be completed in the last 3 years, or by October 2024 for current students


Required:

  • Demonstrated track record of success in independent scientific research, including peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals
  • Molecular and cell biology skills, including mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and flow cytometry
  • Experience with genetic engineering techniques, including viral transduction and CRISPR/Cas
  • Outstanding capacity to learn quickly and rigorously draw accurate conclusions from data
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to both independently advance research programs and to collaborate well in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to stay organized, plan for complicated long-term experiments, and maintain detailed records


Preferred:

  • Foundational knowledge of T cell biology, including hands-on experience with primary human T cells
  • Familiarity with high-throughput pooled screening techniques
  • Ability to draw conclusions from analyzed single cell RNA sequencing data


The salary for this position is $95,000/year, this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus. This is a two year duration based role that has eligibility for severance.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
