The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (MMAE) in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for a position of Post-Doctoral Fellow in the general area of Energy, Engines, Emissions with a focus on methane and other gaseous emissions. The position focuses on methane and other emission (VOCs and HAPs) measurements, liquid storage tank modeling, and the development of emissions inventories. The goal of the research on developing an improved understanding of methane and other emissions from in-use, atmospheric liquid storage tanks of unconventional well development. The initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: assisting in field measurement campaigns, developing regional tank and tank emissions inventories, reviewing and developing models that can predict emissions from atmospheric liquid storage tanks, analyzing and synthesizing large sets of study data, assisting in reporting to the funding agency, and development of peer reviewed journal and conference publications where available.

The Statler College has seven academic departments, over 3,200 students, and 135 faculty members, with about $22 Million in annual external research expenditures. The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering has 30 tenure-track or tenured faculty members, over 570 undergraduate and 120 graduate students. Qualifications

Eligible candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, or a related field at the time of appointment. Doctoral candidates that have defended their thesis/dissertation and have successfully submitted but not yet graduated are also welcomed to apply. Broad expertise in areas of natural gas industry, in-use data collection/acquisition (DAQ) systems, and data processing, modeling, and analyses is required. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive expertise in open source coding and modeling tools - such as Python and/or MATLAB.
