Post Doctoral Research Associate - Department of Entomology & Plant Pathology (UTIA)

Summary: The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral research associate to join our dynamic research lab to study insect-microbe interactions. The successful candidate will spearhead innovative projects focused on novel interactions between parasitoid wasps and beneficial viral symbionts using molecular biology and genomic sequencing methods. Responsibilities include designing and conducting experiments, analyzing complex datasets, contributing to the development of new molecular techniques, and disseminating results by authoring peer-reviewed publications. The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Entomology, or a related field, with proficiency in molecular biology and genomic sequencing techniques. Excellent problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to communicate research findings effectively are essential. Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Principal Investigator to design, plan, and execute laboratory experiments.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, utilizing bioinformatics tools where necessary.
  • Develop and optimize novel molecular techniques and protocols.
  • Write and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to multidisciplinary projects.
  • Prepare and present research findings at internal lab meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Mentor and supervise junior lab members, including undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in molecular entomology and related fields through reading literature and attending relevant seminars and conferences.


Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Molecular Biology, Entomology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in advanced molecular entomology techniques (e.g., PCR, quantitative PCR, cloning, protein purification, insect dissection).
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and data analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Prior experience mentoring or supervising students.
