Overview

The candidate will work with experts in computational radiation dosimetry and risk assessment.   • T he successful c and i da t e w i l l i n t e r a c t w i t h a t e a m o f s c i en t i s t s and engineers a t O RN L in a variety of projects involving internal and external dosimetry and radiation risk analysis.
  • The CRPK provides technical assistance to U.S. federal agencies involved in development of federal guidance for radiation protection and develops many of the biokinetic and dosimetric models recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and applied by U.S. federal agencies.
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist ORNL scientists involved in these efforts, to gain expertise in biokinetic and dosimetric modeling, and to assist and eventually lead in the preparation of open literature publications in these areas.


Basic Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in health physics, radiological health, medical physics, nuclear engineering, o r a c l o s e l y r e l a t ed d i s c i pl i ne
  • Sound foundation in r ad i a t i o n transport, beha v i o r o f r ad i onu c l i de s in b i o l og i c a l s y s t e m s , and/or internal and external radiation dosimetry
  • Good o r a l an d w r i t t e n c o m m u n i c a t i o n s k i ll s
  • Ability t o w o rk both independently and collaboratively to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines and adapt to ever changing needs


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in radiological risk assessment
  • E x pe r i en ce i n biokinetic model d e v e l o p m en t
  • E x pe r i en ce with Monte Carlo radiation transport software and applications
  • Experience with numerical computing using programming languages such as C++, Fortran, Python, etc.
  • Author or co-author of open literature publications


Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months. Extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
