Postdoctoral Scholar in Computer Vision
In collaboration with UCLA DataX, the UCLA Center for Research in Engineering, Media, and Performance (REMAP) invites applications for the position of a postdoctoral scholar for two years with a proposed start date of September 1, 2024.
The Postdoctoral Scholar appointment is a full-time position of advanced academic preparation and research training under the mentorship of Professor Jeff Burke in the Department of Theater. The postdoctoral scholar will work on applications of real-time computer vision to live performances that use extended reality platforms. They will participate in technology development, application, and evaluation that is integrated into the collaborative development of performance projects created for the public.
The postdoctoral scholar will interface regularly with external sponsors and collaborators, including Disney Research | Studios and Disney StudioLAB, as well as faculty, staff, and students in the School of Theater, Film, and Television.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
To apply for this position applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) except the dissertation in computer science, applied mathematics, data science, or a related discipline granted from an accredited university within the last five academic years at the time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Ph.D. (or equivalent) conferred by the appointment start date.
Preferred qualifications
We seek applicants with strong experience in computer vision for real-time applications, along with significant experience and/or interest in multidisciplinary collaborations in arts and entertainment. Experience with multicamera vision, augmented reality, and/or performance capture is a plus. Background in theater, performance, or media production is ideal but not required.
