HDR is seeking a Power Delivery Substation Section Manager focusing on Substation design to join our growing Southeast Power Delivery team in Orlando, FL. This position requires broad technical knowledge and experience with design and construction of high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV. Leveraging that knowledge and experience, they will manage and execute engineering and design components of projects. They must be an experienced and competent engineer that understands technical requirements of substation projects of any complexity and can lead, guide, and advise clients, projects, and teams. They will be required to support the growth of a Substation team and assign tasks to junior level staff and provide technical mentorship to the team. They will be expected to coordinate and assign quality control reviews for work performed by junior level engineers and/or designers.

This position also entails working with Senior Engineers and Business Class Leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise. They will be expected to attend training seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline. They may also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events. This position requires a self-motivated candidate who works independently who can direct, mentor, train, and supervise efforts of less-experienced EITs and designers. They will be expected to establish strong client relationships in the region to gain an in-depth understanding of the clients' business objectives to determine effective execution strategies, and then build local teams to leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to those clients. They will also manage individual projects within their technical expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage key technical aspects for substation physical project deliverables: one-line, three-line, general arrangement, elevations, foundation plan, grounding plan, conduit plan, conduit and cable schedules, bill of materials, SPCC plan, lightning studies, lighting studies, and grounding studies
  • Manage key technical aspects for substation protection and control deliverables: protection one-lines, three-lines, AC schematics, DC schematics, SCADA diagrams, wiring diagrams, battery and charger sizing studies, and CT saturation studies
  • Monitor and participate in the execution of HDR's portfolio of Power Delivery services throughout the South Atlantic (NC/SC/GA) Area
  • Manage key projects or programs, including managing technical staff and sub-consultant teams to meet project delivery needs and exceed client expectations
  • Participate in power delivery marketing efforts, communications and client development with business, operations, marketing and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth and profitability
  • Work with local and regional operations and national leadership to build capabilities through recruitment and staff training
  • Assist with development of technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR's capabilities and industry experience
  • Responsible for quality control reviews in accordance with HDR's policy
  • Plan and manage all aspects of small to medium single-discipline planning projects or large, routine projects
  • Independently coordinate work of engineers and balance planning team throughout entire project's development
  • Coordinate workload throughout entire project development, and ensure completion of documents on schedule
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work efforts with the team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedules
  • Perform other duties as needed


Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • A minimum of 10 years of management experience.
  • Substation design experience, including both indoor and outdoor experience is also required
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Good leadership and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or other Engineering Degree
  • Professional Engineering License
