The Role
Tesla's Drive Inverter modeling team is looking for a skilled and motivated electrical test engineer to perform characterization and validation tests. This person will be responsible for all aspects of test execution, monitoring and reporting of key findings.



Responsibilities
  • Setting up and executing electrical, thermal and electrical-mechanical tests such as, the characterization of heatsinks and power semiconductor devices
  • Validating drive inverter loss, efficiency, and component temperature models
  • Working to improve existing experimental methodologies to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Coordinating testing demands to meet the needs of the Drive Inverter modeling team
  • Collecting and interpreting data from a variety of data acquisition systems
  • Debugging and troubleshooting test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • Working with component suppliers to acquire samples and critical characterization data


Requirements
  • BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Solid understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion
  • Experience with the design of analog/digital circuits and micro-processors
  • Proficient with electronics measurement instruments such as, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal Generators, power analyzers, and multimeters
  • Experience in automating data collection and analysis
  • Experience with PCB design software
  • Knowledgeable in Python and MATLAB
  • Team oriented, curious, and independent learner
Preferred Skills
  • 2 years industry experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with high voltage power semiconductors (Si/SiC/GaN MOSFET's, Diodes), gate drive and protection circuitry
  • Fundamental knowledge of 2-level voltage source inverters
  • Good understanding of power semiconductor switching waveforms and loss models
  • Knowledge in environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for automotive applications

    • Expected Compensation

      $80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
