HDR is looking for a Senior Project and Client Manager to join our team.
Our key services relevant to this position encompass resource planning, project development, detailed design, and owner's engineer work for new and existing utility-scale generation facilities including natural gas, hydrogen, solar, energy storage, and hydroelectric power plants as well as distributed generation applications to support electrification and microgrids for resilience.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Senior Project and Client Manager, you will help develop a highly diverse power and energy business across numerous clients in the region. In this role, you will focus on fostering existing and developing new power and energy businesses with utility power and energy developer clients, both locally and in collaboration with other HDR Operating Areas. You will be in a position to develop, inspire, lead, and oversee the activities of multi-discipline engineering and project teams involving mechanical, chemical, electrical, instrumentation & controls, and project controls disciplines.
This position will be responsible for deepening relationships with local and regional clients to grow HDR's market presence. As these relationships grow, this individual will be required to manage key projects, collaborate with local and regional execution teams, and develop a staffing strategy to support these clients in the future. This position will be responsible for deepening relationships with local and regional clients to grow HDR's market presence. As these relationships grow, this individual will be required to manage key projects, collaborate with local and regional execution teams, and develop a staffing strategy to support these clients in the future. Responsibilities include:
- Participate in local and regional strategic planning activities for the Power Sector.
- Cultivate Power Generation relationships with a targeted list of local, strategic clients who are important for the growth of the power generation program. Participate in the development of strong client relationships and serve as a client manager for select clients.
- Work with internal market leaders and client leaders to identify/target clients and projects resulting in the expansion of the business in the area.
- Grow HDR's portfolio of Power Generation services. Leverage experience and personal networks to work with clients to create opportunities to deliver a variety of HDR services including consulting, detailed design, owners engineering, permitting, siting, right-of-way, environmental, and planning. Recognize other HDR services and activities outside of core development services that would benefit clients.
- Partner with other regional and national client managers and business development leaders to grow the practice through client activities and marketing.
- Inform and support growing the size and capabilities of the local team through recruitment, mentoring, staff development, staff retention, work-sharing, and training.
- Create and implement client development plans for local and regional clients.
- Lead pursuit efforts for a wide range of opportunities; cross-sell all services HDR can offer. Develop and/or review proposals including scope, cost estimates, schedules, work plans, and staffing.
- Serve as a local project manager for key projects. Prepares scope of work, and budget estimates, and independently coordinates work of multi-discipline professional staff to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Track financial aspects of projects and coordinate and adjust work efforts with the team to ensure work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-to schedule.
- Work with Project Accountants and Area Business Group Managers for internal project reviews with company management as needed.
- Facilitate teamwork, communication, and work-sharing between HDR offices and business groups.
- Participate in business and community activities as a representative of HDR.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering required.
- Minimum 7 years' related experience, including a minimum of 2 years of project/program management in the power and energy industry.
- Proven history of developing and maintaining client relationships in the power industry.
- Experience developing proposals and responses to solicitations across a variety of clients, project delivery methods, and project complexities.
- Experience in thermal (simple cycle and combined cycle) and distributed generation markets is desired. Renewable energy, energy storage, and/or hydrogen experience are considered a bonus.
- Experienced in the successful development and management of diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional engineer (PE) registration is highly preferred
- Local candidates preferred
