  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering, plus three (3) years experience related to the job.


  • Masters degree in engineering may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Power System Engineer:



Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, plus five (5) years of experience related to engineering.

Licenses or Certifications:
  • None.

Position Description:
This position resides in the Austin Energy Electrical Distribution Standards Department. Position applies engineering and technical principals to specify the purchase requirements and construction standards of electrical distribution equipment and materials. Researches and analyzes new technologies to determine applicability to utility standards. Oversees technical aspects of projects to assure advancement of new technologies. Works with vendors and manufacturers to provide assistance in determining cause and solutions to equipment and material failures. Works with a broad range of work groups and professional disciplines.

This position will be filled at either the Power System Graduate Engineer or Power System Engineer level based on qualifications.


Power System Graduate Engineer - $38.97 to $50.67 per hour
Power System Engineer - $41.70 to $54.21 per hour

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of or exposure to medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment and materials.
  • Experience interpreting electrical one-line diagrams.
  • Experience reading and/or writing technical specifications.
  • Experience utilizing AutoCAD or other technical drafting software.
  • Experience overseeing projects and providing technical guidance.
  • Experience procuring equipment and material for projects.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and ensuring project deadlines are met.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
