Job Summary:

To collaborate and support the PAT team by floating between roles as needed/directed by the PAT Coordinator while adhering to the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Facility.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The following description of the job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the primary responsibilities of the job but are not intended to describe all duties other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Must be flexible to move between PAT, pre-call, and chart prep areas as needed.
  • Assists with chart completion as directed.
  • Perform nurse calls when applicable.
  • Assists in rescheduling PAT visits as needed.
  • Assists in coordinating/obtaining patient lab results and clearances.
  • Prepares/restocks/orders supplies for the PAT area as directed.
  • Performs PAT visits, according to facility policy and procedure


    • Provides preoperative instruction and explanation of patient rights and responsibilities.
    • Describes the perioperative experience to the patient and the participation of the significant other, including what to expect before, during and after the procedure.
    • Reviews and confirms medical history and procedure to be performed.
    • Provides all required preoperative instructions applicable to the procedure being performed.
    • Reviews health histories with anesthesia that do not meet the Center's admission criteria.
    • Reviews physician preoperative orders prior to the day of admission. Monitors that orders or preoperative testing requests from either the admitting physician or the anesthesiologist have been received prior to the day of admission.
    • If patient not seen at hospital for PAT visit, contacts patients 3-4 days prior to surgery and completes pre call screening


  • Respects patient's right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
  • Is knowledgeable about and responsive to emergency situations, i.e. cardiac arrest, drug reaction, fire, disaster etc.
  • Reports and completes appropriate forms for incidents related to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and staff development programs

Required Skills:

Licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania

Current BLS certification
