DESCRIPTION

Design, construct, and test experimental electronic devices and circuits, or advise on modifications or new devices; advise on feasibility of electronic solutions; maintain, troubleshoot, and install electronic systems or sub-systems; analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems; supply technical advice on the types, techniques and proper electronic instruments for each experiment; integrate circuits or units and package prototype models into operational form; conduct and supervise the collection and interpretation of data; may serve as working leaders in scheduling and assigning work to other electronics technicians and personnel performing related work; and assist students and faculty in solving electronic problems.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of electronic principles including analog, digital and microprocessor circuit concepts; must include specific knowledge of low noise amplifiers, power conversion, high resolution A/D conversion and radio telemetry concepts with application to broadband data acquisition and recording.
  • Ability to read and create standard engineering drawings using computer aided design tools including circuit schematics, logic diagrams and machine tool fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to design, fabricate and test prototype circuits working independently using drawings, sketches, verbal instructions and standard reference materials; ability to plan work and assure compliance with established technical standards and manufacturer's published specifications.
  • Knowledge of shielding and grounding techniques common in applications of sensitive scientific instruments, power conversion systems and radio telemetry equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use PC type computer with Window's operating system and Window's applications software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and Hyperterm).
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Valid US passport is required; extensive foreign travel for periods up to three months; ability to perform field work under difficult conditions.
  • California drivers license to operate a university vehicle as needed is required.The job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $78,049 - $102,959 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.38 - $49.31

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
