Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in observability or equivalent area.
  • 15 years of experience with distributed systems, databases (with specialization in time series databases), observability, and reliability engineering.
  • 15 years of experience leading and implementing engineering projects at an executive level within multinational organizations.
  • 10 years of experience defining system or process requirements for systems.


Preferred qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems, and distributed systems.
  • 10 years of experience leading large, fast-paced, and dynamic engineering teams.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $278,000-$399,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall technical strategy for Cloud Observability (e.g., Cloud Logging, Monitoring, Alerting, and Trace) and Google's internal planet-scale time series database.
  • Drive an architectural refresh of Monarch to improve reliability, scalability, and maintainability, partnering with senior technical leaders in the P2020 and the Reliability Infrastructure teams to deliver the next transformation in Google's internal monitoring and alerting platforms.
  • Collaborate with peer tech leads in Gemini Cloud Assist, Titan, App Hub, and related teams to develop a technical roadmap for how to integrate observability data into Cloud Assist user journeys.
  • Mentor and grow tech leads and software engineers in the Observability team.
