The CNS Surveillance Department in Melbourne, Florida is seeking to fill a Staff Electrical / Lead FPGA Engineering Position. This is a mid to high-level FPGA engineering position within CNS Surveillance Transponder Products Group. This Staff FPGA Engineer role is for an experienced Electrical and Electronics Engineering professional, leading a small group of FPGA Engineers. The position will support the development of FPGA requirements, firmware, and test procedures. The engineer must have knowledge of the principles and techniques commonly used in FPGA development and qualification related to commercial avionics. The position will also strong leadership skill and will involve project planning, and supporting development of bids, budgets, and schedules. This position may encompass both new design and product sustaining support roles.

Position will be a hybrid role, located in Melbourne, FL. Relocation assistance is available.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of FPGA design and test engineers in the development of FPGA firmware solutions for commercial avionics
  • Assist program leadership in project planning efforts and ensure FPGA execution is completed in accordance is committed schedule and budgets
  • Follow DO-254 program planning documentation, and ensure CPLD/FPGA design adheres to the plans
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in FPGA design, simulation and test
  • Capture and document the flowed down functional requirements, and develop and document the derived requirements for FPGAs
  • Design FPGA architectural diagrams, develop VHDL to implement the design critical functionality
  • Develop sub-functions and test benches for simulation
  • Perform engineering timing simulations and functional analysis
  • Creation and review of engineering documentation
  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems and networks to ensure that business objectives and required specifications are met.
  • Requirements definition, detailed design, validation of requirements and verification of implementation.
  • Support SOI (Stage of Involvement) reviews for Avionics products


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree ( Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) ) and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • Strong project and development leadership skills
  • Experience with Actel, Xilinx, FPGAs and development tools
  • Excellent FPGA lab integration and troubleshooting knowledge
  • Hardware Verification experience including, test procedure development, robustness testing& debug
  • Experience with hardware configuration management and problem reporting tools
  • Experience capturing detailed FPGA requirements datasetsfrom allocated system level requirements, including decomposition and derivation.
  • Experience implementing FPGA requirements into FPGA Architecture diagrams and a detailed design in VHDL
  • Experience writing requirements test benches to verify detail design


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with managing requirements in JAMA
  • Experience working with Air Transport OEMs on developmental projects
  • Knowledge of Transponder Specific TSO Requirements
  • Experience in RTL coding (VHDL/Verilog) and UVM (Universal Verification Methodology)
  • Familiarity with the signal processing system simulation & analysis tools (e.g. Matlab, Simulink)
  • Familiarity with revision control concepts and tools (e.g. JIRA, GIT, Subversion)
