ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built, and ensuring safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. It is a city department of over 500 employees across four main Divisions: Management Services, Planning, Historic Preservation, and Development.

The Planning and Development Department has a Principal Engineering Technician (PET) vacancy in the Civil Review Section. The Civil Review Section is responsible for review and approval of technical construction documents as it relates to grading and drainage, offsite concrete, paving, storm drain, plats, water, and sewer plans. The Civil Review Section works closely with design engineers, project developers, contractors, and citizens to work towards approval of plans in accordance with applicable codes.

This position performs difficult, complex, and technical paraprofessional engineering duties, and advises firms engaged in various technical engineering reviews. Responsibilities include reviewing plans regarding grading and drainage, paving, and stormwater, plans in accordance with department policy. Work is performed under the supervision of a Program Manager. The PET will conduct report audits and field inspections of post-construction features at public and private development and redevelopment projects.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other Planning and Development sections and City departments.
  • Proficient in computer programs including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and other programs.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a willingness to assist the public daily.
  • Knowledge of City Code and Policies.

SALARY

Pay Range: $61,526.40 - $110,510.40 annually.

Hiring Range: $61,526.40 - $95,451.20 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work, including three years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience (or one year of experience at the level of Chief Engineering Technician, or Chief Drafting Technician.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted .

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Civil Plan review experience.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Experience compiling and analyzing data.
  • Five years of more of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with GIS systems and map review.
  • Experience using Legistar for creation and approval.
  • Experience generating monthly reports for executive management.
  • Experience in the use of a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) including but not limited to KIVA and SHAPEPHX
