Jacobs is looking for a talented, motivated Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support our practice in Texas and likely throughout the United States. You will provide technical guidance to the group and be the engineer of record for significant geotechnical project elements including embankment dams, slurry walls, retaining walls, excavation support, tunnel entrance shafts, construction dewatering, and heavy industrial foundations.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide geotechnical leadership on multiple projects within Texas
  • Manage medium to large projects and tasks
  • Supervise, mentor, and train junior staff
  • Advise the planning for large geotechnical exploration (greater than 100 borings and tests) and laboratory testing programs
  • Oversee the preparation of drawings, technical specifications, and geotechnical reports
  • Manage and advise personnel executing instrumentation monitoring programs 2D and/or 3D stability analyses, 2D and/or 3D seepage analyses, settlement estimates, seismic analyses
  • Design ground improvements programs, excavation support, and seepage barriers
  • Direct preparation and assure quality in technical reports, technical specifications, and design drawings
  • Occasional travel required


  • MS and/or PhD in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering
  • Registration as a professional engineer and/or geologist in the United States is required
  • Ability to register as a professional engineer in the state of Texas within 1 year is required
  • Long-standing professional experience performing geotechnical projects

Ideally you'll also have:
  • Dam and levee design and analysis experience
  • Foundation design experience
  • Knowledge of dam safety standards
  • Strong computer skills are required including Microsoft Office applications and some pertinent technical engineering software
  • Strong technical presentation and report writing skills
