Our Global Consulting team is growing; we are currently recruiting for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer. The role is ideally based in Tucson, Arizona but flexible to other locations in North America.

You will have the opportunity to work on engineering and geotechnical projects in a multi-discipline project team environment. In addition to your technical role, you'll have the opportunity to play a role in the development of new business opportunities and develop collaborative working relationships with other Ausenco offices.

About the role

  • Provide technical leadership in advancing construction and closure practices for global mining projects, with a focus on design of tailings and waste storage facilities.
  • Offer guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise to the geotechnical team.
  • Collaborate with key project stakeholders to review and approve project execution strategies and engineering plans.
  • Coordinate technical reviews as outlined in operating procedures and project execution plans.
  • Engage in effective communication with clients to understand their needs and explore alternative solutions.
  • Cultivate a customer focused team culture that fosters openness, trust, empowerment, innovation, teamwork, and high-quality performance to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Facilitate technical discussions with third parties (customers, suppliers, regulators) to facilitate informed technical decisions.


About you

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or Geotechnical Engineering; a post graduate degree (in Geotechnical or related discipline) is an asset.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated management of projects related to geotechnical investigations and design.
  • Expertise in mining operations, tailings and mine waste management, slope stability, and dam/tailings storage facility foundation characteristics.
  • Project Management skills, with an ability to track timelines, meet budgets and schedules.
  • Consulting acumen, including an entrepreneurial spirit, strong self-direction, and overarching belief in client satisfaction.
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in a second language including French or Spanish is an advantage.
