About the Job

The Principal Scientist, Computational Biology leads the development and deployment of computational methods for NGS-based clinical diagnostic assays in our clinical labs. Working as part of a large multidisciplinary team, this role distills the latest advances in computational methods, genomics, and oncology to develop innovative, best-in-class clinical diagnostic tools. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of genomics, cancer biology, and computational biology, and will have a track record of working on cross-functional teams to deliver on complex projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop computational methodology and perform critical analyses to support development of new products and improvements to existing products, both as an individual contributor and/or as a team leader.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including members from assay development, software engineering, marketing, quality, regulatory, and others to execute complex product development projects.
  • Work closely with bench scientists to develop and optimize new wet-lab protocols in concert with computational biology development efforts.
  • Analyze large genomic and epigenomic datasets using cutting-edge computational biology methods to identify genomic alterations and biomarkers associated with cancer onset and progression and to craft novel tools to detect those patterns.
  • Communicate scientific findings and project progress to project teams and senior leadership.
  • Guide, coach, direct, develop, and hire direct reports, if applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD in a life science or computational discipline.
  • 5+ years of postdoctoral research or professional experience related to NGS or cancer diagnostics.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with Python or a closely related programming language.
  • Life sciences industry experience in genomics, molecular insights, and/or diagnostics including regulated diagnostics development
  • Experience with cancer biology, cell biology, genetics, epigenetics or molecular biology, esp. working with large biological data sets to address focused biological questions in oncology
  • Experience developing algorithms and tools for analysis of large data sets, including prior experience with genomic and NGS data
  • Advanced software development skills (including substantial experience with Python, Java, R, and/or C++) as well as experience with computational technologies such as databases (SQL) and cloud computing (esp. AWS)
  • Sound knowledge of current bioinformatics trends, available genomic and epigenetic bioinformatic tools and databases
  • Ability to adapt to changing procedures, policies, and work environment
  • Excellent organization skills with a demonstrated attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data
