The Principal Security Engineer would own the strategy for building DynamoDB's engagement with AWS Security Guardians, develop and implement a security review process for all new DynamoDB features, and lead a deep-dive review of DynamoDB's architecture and implementation. They would work on all security escalations, engage with the AWS Security team on our annual security reviews, quantify and track compliance issues, and engage on all identified security issues to determine an appropriate course of action and remediation. They would mentor junior security engineers on the team, and drive the overall culture of security across the entire DynamoDB organization. Must stay current security threats and guide the team on resolving them across the DBS organization and not just DynamoDB. They would work with AWS Database engine security engineers on cross-organization programs to drive security across DBS, and influence engineering practices across the org. They will act as security subject matter experts for engineering teams, GMs and VPs. This role would continue to provide guidance and strategy as our use cases evolve beyond 18 months.

About the team

DynamoDB is a serverless, NoSQL, fully-managed database with single-digit millisecond performance at any scale. With +1MM customers and a >$1B run rate, DynamoDB is a leading operational database. DynamoDB launched in 2012 and uses standard AWS code repository, build, and deployment tooling.

DynamoDB has not kept pace with of adoption of security best practices recommended by AWS. This means DynamoDB's security and operational posture is lagging AWS-standard tooling that monitors these for services using AWS-standard tooling. This divergence, in addition to the speed at which DynamoDB is growing YoY (n over m % over %), requires a dedicated security engineering team to raise the bar on security across the organization that meets the pace of our growth. DynamoDB is a fully managed solution that requires its own security processes and a single threaded leader who partners with other services, works proactively to identify gaps, and partner with other AWS services on tooling and solutions. There are over 500 SDEs on the DynamoDB team, and no Security Engineers.

This Principal Security Engineer would lead DynamoDB's Security Engineering design reviews, AWS Security engagements, Security Guardians program. They would drive proactive security and risk assessments and building a culture of security into DynamoDB's engineering practices.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $294,700/year in our highest geographic market.
