Commerce + Ecosystems (C+E) is responsible for enabling and optimizing the end-to-end customer journey on the Microsoft Cloud. C+E's Commerce Financial Services (CFS) team is responsible for Financial Platforms, Global Payments & Cash, Employee Financial Experiences, and C+E Governance, and also develops and operates financial commerce platforms and tools that perform all revenue management functions for our customers, partners, and staff worldwide.

Commerce Financial Services (CFS) builds and manages the critical products and services that Microsoft runs on. CFS Finance Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer seeking these challenges. Your charter is to maintain service excellence while delivering innovative solutions that reduce manual work and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions.
  • System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions.
  • Develop "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
  • Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
  • Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
  • Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
  • Contribute to our new cloud-based architecture leveraging technologies such as Apache Spark with Scala, Azure Event Hubs, SQL Azure, Cosmos DB and C#
  • Participate in On Call and Site Reliability rotations to support live site and drive engineered solutions to improve customer experiences
  • Provide critical thinking, technical innovation, and attention to detail while serving as a trusted advisor in the organization
  • Gain understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborate with others to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in big data and analytics technologies such as Spark
Other Requirements:

Abilityto meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirementsarerequired for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will berequiredto pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
