Principal Software Engineer

Are you interested in being part of a small team working to expand the next-generation industry-leading platform for infrastructure monitoring? Splunk is looking for a Principal Engineer to join the analytics team and have a large impact on a team that is building the future of observability. We're working on the cutting edge of data analysis and correlation, ensuring engineers and operators have the data they need to solve hard to diagnose system problems or to stop issues before they have a chance to arise.

You'll learn how our entire stack works, from data ingestion and storage to searching, reporting and visualization, all in distributed environments. The work you'll do will directly have a positive impact on the experience of our customers.

Our engineers take a leading role in designing, architecting, building and testing our product. We have delivered critical new features as we continue to grow our ability to scale, give back to open-source and enhance our security posture. Help us build and expand our machine learning capabilities, parallelization and making our stack more developer-friendly.

What you will be doing:

• Build and deploy robust, fault-tolerant and secure distributed systems.
• Analyze to improve the scalability and fault tolerance of data routing, storage, retrieval and computation.
• Code data components in Java, including the streaming data pipeline responsible for our world-class SignalFlow query language.
• Interact with time series databases and alerting logic.
• Contribute to customer-facing and internal APIs.

Skill you might have:

• Professional software engineering and architecture experience including distributed system implementation.
• A degree in Computer Science or related engineering subject area is preferred.
• Able to develop, debug and test in an object oriented language like Java.
• Experience with AWS or other clouds services and their APIs.
• Crafting, building and delivering software as a service.
• Docker, Helm and Kubernetes are all major pluses.
• Finding math fun can take you a long way.

Base Pay Range: $203,200.00 - 279,400.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), Washington DC Metro, and Massachusetts

Base Pay Range: $182,880.00 - 251,460.00 per year

All other cities and states excluding California, Washington, Massachusetts, New York City Metro Area and Washington DC Metro Area.

Base Pay Range: $162,560.00 - 223,520.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the base pay range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the base pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for incentive compensation and may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
