Team Intro
The USDS Privacy and Integrated Security team is responsible for overseeing and governing all activities of privacy impacts to TikTok USDS' operations.
- We address complex and cutting-edge challenges, aiming to build the world's most trusted social media platform.
- We partner with TikTok global legal, R&D, Privacy and Data Protection Office, and security organizations in advancing our privacy practices.
- We oversee, govern and support the integration and optimization of operational privacy capabilities including data inventory, data classification, data retention/deletion, and incident response, etc., to ensure scalable and compliant privacy and data protection practices.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Privacy and Data Protection Strategist to join our team. As a direct report to the Head of the Privacy and Integrated Security Department, this role will be at the forefront of ensuring data protection and building trust in the TikTok US platform. This role will develop and execute privacy and data protection strategies that align with organizational goals and comply with relevant laws and regulations, ensuring that TikTok US infrastructure's data and privacy management, including data retention, deletion, inventory, classification, data access management, etc., operate as designed, and fully utilize capabilities offered by internal, 3rd party and custom toolings.

Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with global R&D and security and privacy teams to ensure USDS privacy operations align with global privacy framework and fully utilize capabilities afforded by global teams.
- Continuously monitor current privacy and data protection capabilities, identify gaps, and develop and execute strategies to enhance data retention, deletion, inventory, classification, etc., capabilities.
- Work closely with USDS cyber security and privacy operation teams to maintain and continuously monitor the effectiveness of data protection, complying with US and global privacy regulations. Make recommendations to improve data and privacy practices
- Design, update, and maintain privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with legal requirements and industry best practices. Ensure that these policies are effectively communicated and adhered to across the organization.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential data protection risks. Develop and implement strategies to address identified risks and vulnerabilities.
- Develop impactful metrics, measure the coverage and effect of privacy and data solutions.
- Identify the need for new solutions and functionalities to adapt and adhere to evolving regulations and privacy standards.
- Collaborate with global and US teams to ensure that privacy practices are followed during the design, development and launch of TikTok products, services and components within the US infrastructure.
- Evaluate infrastructure, systems, information flow and data architecture and the change of them to ensure it supports privacy by design principles and data lifecycle considerations.
- Engage in special projects and additional responsibilities may be needed as the team expands.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field. Candidates with significant relevant experience in security, privacy and data protection fields will also be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- Minimum of 5+ years of overall experience in R&D, information security, or privacy and data protection fields.
- Minimum of 5+ years in a technical architecture field, such as solution architecture, system architecture, information architecture, or enterprise architecture.
- Strong understanding of data security, privacy governance, risk management, privacy regulations, and technical solutions. Proven experience in assessing and implementing data protection capabilities. Experience with data privacy operations and compliance.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent writing skills. Proficiency in drawing architecture diagrams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the social media industry.
- Experience in a global R&D setting
- Extensive years of overall experience in R&D, information security, or privacy and data protection fields.
- Certifications such as CDPSE, CISSP, CIPT, CIPP, CIPM
