Job Summary:
Pediatric advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) is to provide acute and primary care services. A collaborative agreement is developed and updated through the credential process and as needed , with the current Physicians.

Essential Functions:
  • Utilizes advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in pediatrics to implement an APN role for an identified population of patients, including acute & primary care , health promotion , prevention of dis e ase, and management of chronic disease. Performs delegated medical function s as described in written protocols and / or a collaborative agreement that has been approved by medical and nursing administration
  • Systematically assesses the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families through the use of medical screening exams (MSE) , history and physical exams and other assessments as appropriate. Develops a plan of care for each patient / family based on assessment and documents according to policy
  • Demonstrates advanced nursing clinical judgment and competence in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of identified patients. Monitors clinical outcomes to improve the quality of care for patients. Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed.
  • Facilitates collaborative practice with the multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive , coordinated needs assessment and treatment plan. Communicate the plan to the patient , family , and other care providers , both within the Hospital and with appropriate community agencies to provide continuity of care
  • Integrates the role of teacher into clinical practice to provide patient education. Assesses learning needs provides for education, and evaluates learning achieved. Assists the staff in providing patient and family education
  • Promotes professional growth and development of staff nurses by providing continuing education to advance knowledge and skills in identified areas of clinical expertise. Provides leadership by assisting new practitioners and graduate nursing students with role development and socialization. Interprets scientific information in areas of expertise through formal and informal educational sessions
  • Consult within the organization on current pediatric clinical practice and disease management in the area(s) of expertise. Functions as a resource to the community in areas of expertise
  • Participates as a member of related professional organizations
  • Demonstrates competence in nursing research through:
    • Utilization of research studies to guide clinical practice
    • Participation in research studies
    • Evaluation of outcomes
    • Interpretation and communication of research findings to nursing staff to advance practice
Additional Functions as Needed:
  • Provides acute care and ER/IP follow-up
  • Provides well-childcare in conjunction with the primary care providers
  • Provides services related to health maintenance and promotion
  • Establishes diagnoses for common short-term and chronic health conditions
  • Orders and conducts timely follow up on laboratory and radiologic tests
  • Performs other therapeutic or corrective measures as indicated
  • Prescribes medications as appropriate
  • Performs medical screening exams for patients who present to the acute care clinic
  • Consults and/or refers patients to licensed physicians or other health care providers as indicated
  • Reviews laboratory results, consultant examinations, and emergency room dispositions and follow up on those requiring intervention
  • Provides urgent care as indicated
  • Appropriately documents all findings concisely and completely utilizing the electronic medical records system, and ensures all entries are dated and signed within 48 hours of the patient visit .
  • Participates in special projects and quality initiatives as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and Outpatient Executive Director
  • Educates patients on the appropriate use of ER services and develops materials supporting increased patient knowledge in this area
  • Serves as a resource and consultant for other providers, nurses, and staff members within the clinic
  • Assists in the education of patients, nurses, and other clinical team members
  • Performs other duties as assigned
What We Need from You:

Education: M.S Degree; training as a Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
License: Current Illinois Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN)
Experience: 3 years or more experience

Language: Bi-lingual Spanish speaking (preferred)
Specialized Knowledge and Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated knowledge and expertise in pediatrics. Active membership in appropriate professional organizations; Ability to speak Spanish preferred

CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross will be accepted
