Department Summary
The InfoGraphics Lab is a hybrid research and practice center within the College of Arts and Sciences that for 35 years has been a recognized leader in cartographic design, dynamic mapping, mobile application development, spatial data analysis, visualization, and GIS. The Lab conducts interdisciplinary collaborative projects with research partners on campus at the UO, with state agencies, and other universities. Consisting of 10-15 employees including faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students, the Lab prides itself on providing experiential learning opportunities to students who contribute to real-world projects that make a positive impact on science and humanity.
Position Summary
The University of Oregon's InfoGraphics Lab seeks to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill periodic vacancies for temporary research and project management positions to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects with specialized technical or domain-specific requirements. All positions would be funding contingent, part-time, temporary assignments with an appointment of up to one year, but with the possibility of renewal for up to a total of three years depending on need, funding and/or performance. Appointments would be as research assistants, conducting research or project management under the direction of a faculty member. Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's in a spatial or design field.
• Two years' professional experience working with geospatial and/or design technologies.
Professional Competencies
• Commitment to working effectively with a team students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and across a range of disciplines.
• Strong background in design, cartography, data visualization, data wrangling, GIS, programming, and/or web development.
• Experience with Esri's ArcGIS suite, Adobe Creative suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), R, Python, and other software is highly desired.
• Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and work well in a diverse, collaborative setting.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience in web programming, HTML, CSS, D3, Leaflet, Mapbox.
• Research and teaching experience.
• Strong interest in contributing to the development of the Lab's mission.
