Job Duties

Provides day-to-day supervision and training to staff under the direction of the Chief or Deputy Chief Probation Officer. Supervises a specialized caseload of sex offenders, performs investigations, case management, and administrative services. Assigns cases and investigations. Prepares Employee Work Profiles and evaluates employee work performance formally and informally on an ongoing basis. Reviews Officer's Casework and Pre-sentence reports. Assists Chief and Deputy Chief Probation Officer in carrying out administrative functions. Acts as Unit Manager in the absence of the Chief or Deputy Chief Probation Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

Completed the required academy courses for a sex offender supervision specialist. Valid Virginia Driver's License. Considerable experience as a sex offender supervision specialist in a Probation & Parole District. Considerable experience of sex offender treatment methods, social casework, and supervision with sexual offenders. Working knowledge of civil commitment laws and conditional release supervision in the community. Demonstrated experience and competence with GPS installation and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to lead the work of other professional staff; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to interact with offenders and the public; to organize and implement casework services; to initiate independent actions and carry out assignments with minimal supervision; to intervene in crisis situations; and to develop and maintain good interagency relationships. Skilled in interviewing, gathering & interpreting info to assess needed services & requirements.

Additional Considerations

Knowledge of Evidenced Based Practices, current sex offender treatment methodology, and knowledgeable of the post-conviction sex offender polygraph. Working knowledge of an electronic, voice monitoring system and/or Shadow Track.
