CertainTeed Roofing R&D is growing and seeking an experience Process Development Manager - R&D Process NA. The incumbent will be responsible to build and lead a team of engineers located onsite at CertainTeed 4-wide Roofing plants who are focused on advancing the Roofing business's core capabilities around statistical process control, raw material control, process optimization, process industrialization, and compliance to industry codes. The incumbent owns a portfolio of projects and drives those projects to completion thus making direct impacts in technical, operational, and business aspects of roofing products. He/She will need to develop a team whose members have deep technical expertise at their respective facility. Currently CertainTeed operates 4-wide plants in seven locations across the United States and Canada.

This position will lead the development and implementation of process improvements, equipment upgrades, new processes, and process control statistical tools. Phases of development include pilot, scale-up, and implementation of R&D processes and new products into manufacturing at plant specific locations. As a Process Development Manager, you will guide the team's activities from a strong foundation of manufacturing engineering, industrialization, and process control. The ability to communicate across all levels of the organization will be essential for this role to influence others and drive projects to completion. The ability to lead others and effectively manage their work is essential to success in this role.

The essential function include:
  • Leads a group of engineers, defines the projects, and proposes the technical approach, cost estimates, and timelines. Leadership includes defining and developing the skill sets necessary for team success, mentoring team members, and maintaining accountability for project portfolio.
  • Manages project portfolio across multiple shingle plants that extend the current technology in one or more areas including process improvement, process optimization, product throughput, quality, and fundamental knowledge, ensuring on-time delivery, well documented and within budget to meet business and customer objectives. Data and results to be presented in oral and written form. Includes the generation of project timelines/plans, technical memos, research reports, and presentations to internal customers, project teams, and/or management.
  • Propose, lead, and execute strategic assignments related to either plant technology or equipment or business development, by performing analyses, setting up action plans and coordinating/executing such actions that are necessary to achieve the business goal.

  • Bachelor's Degree with 15+ years of experience; Master's Degree with 10+ years of experience or PhD with 6+ years of experience, in an engineering discipline, such as Manufacturing, Industrial, Process, Mechanical or similar discipline
  • Years of experience must include a combination of leadership and manufacturing experience in a high-volume commodity product environment and
  • Experience must include demonstrated leadership experience in projects and team collaboration.
  • Must be considered a Subject Matter Expert in processes development and optimization
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to industrialize new processes and equipment
  • Knowledgeable in process modeling
  • Knowledgeable in roofing industry is a plus
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge in Environmental, Health & Safety and Intellectual Property
  • Must have demonstrated project leadership capabilities and ability to lead/manage a team of engineers.
  • Strong ability to network in and outside of group
  • Seen as a leader in the company by attitude and actions with a Customer-Centric mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and organize teams in high pressure situation
  • Green Belt or Black Belt statistical training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill to communicate technical content in a clear, effective, and respectful way to all levels of the organization and to people with different backgrounds, functions and cultures
  • Must be able to work independently and collaborate with all levels of the organization to identify process improvement opportunities, outline project plans, and work to introduce new processes, techniques and tools into the manufacturing process
  • Strong technical problem-solving capabilities, to include: generating original ideas and inventing new processes. Fluency with Design of Experiments, Statistical Analysis, Statistical Process Control and Root Cause Analysis
  • Define project objectives to align with business and R&D goals, involving the extension of present technology, improvement of products, processes and new knowledge with some level of complexity
