Job Description

The Process Improvement engineer will support the Assistant Director, Process Improvement in the development and integration of initiatives, services, and programs that enable the ongoing transformation of our Health System operations. Provides innovative, analytical, and engineering support to assess current processes, rework inefficiencies, improve quality and outcomes, reduce waste and costs, and to provide project/initiative support from design through implementation. The Process Improvement Engineer plays an integral part in enabling transformation and assists in the delivery of innovative new tools, systems, processes, etc. to teams across the Health System. He/She acts as an internal expert in terms of process engineering, process mapping, workflow assessment, analytics and system analysis.

Utilizing data-driven approaches, the Process Improvement Engineer will foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team and the organization. As a champion for process improvement initiatives, he/she will partner with stakeholders and leadership to champion change management efforts and drive adoption of systems and processes.

The Process Improvement Engineer will be actively engaged in multiple programs/projects/initiatives. He/She will work closely with internal team members, stakeholders, collaborators, and participating facilities to help ensure that projects are conducted in a timely manner to achieve goals within defined budgets and aligned to organizational strategy.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Partners in the identification and development of transformational initiatives and opportunities consistent with the mission and strategic direction of the Health System under the direction of Leadership.
  • Serves as resident process engineering expert for the Business Operations team and supports additional teams across the Health System as appropriate.
  • Sources data and synthesizes potential process improvement opportunities for consideration by leadership.
  • Attends meetings, provides expertise in process improvement and transformation, in support of system wide projects related to the evolution of operations within New York City Health + Hospital facilities under the direction of the Assistant Director.
  • Provides support to the process improvement and operations teams, ensuring the teams are informed of all necessary analytics and ongoing initiative details.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships within the system in order to obtain information and content from providers and colleagues to foster successful project completion.
  • Stays current with advancements in processes and technology which could benefit the Health System. Leverages this knowledge to assess potential transformation within our business and shares insights with leadership.
  • Coordinates and manages multiple projects across the Health System, as needed.
  • Coordinates project site monitoring activities, and may participate in site monitoring associated with initiation, interim, close out, and audit visits as required.
  • Serves as the liaison by understanding and interpreting business requirements, mapping process models, designing technical solutions to satisfy requirements, and completing formal system piloting.
  • Supports the Assistant Director to achieve initiative goals for submission and approvals, facility initiation, source document verification, data monitoring, ownership and accountability, and facility/site closure.
  • Coordinates and manages multiple projects across the Health System, as needed.
  • Coordinates project site monitoring activities, and may participate in site monitoring associated with initiation, interim, close out, and audit visits as required.
  • Serves as the liaison by understanding and interpreting business requirements, mapping process models, designing technical solutions to satisfy requirements, and completing formal system piloting.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Healthcare Management, Engineering, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences or related discipline; and
2. Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in project and program management, execution, and implementation, three (3) years of which must have been in the administration, management and/or execution of projects and programs of various complexities, including work in health care program planning, research, design or related area; or
3. Certification in Project Management (e.g., Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Program
Management Professional (PgMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)) and four (4) years of experience as described in #2 above, two (2) years of which must have been in the administration, management and/or execution of projects and programs of various complexities, including work in health care program planning, research, design or related area.

  • Certification(S)/NYS Licenses: Lean Six Sigma
  • Understanding of electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Has a minimum of 2 years of process improvement and/or project management experience
  • Has excellent planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Has excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Has the ability to travel up to 20%, based on project needs.
  • Has proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Project, Excel, Word and standard computer programs required.
