What You Can Expect

The Process Principal Engineer I is responsible for providing manufacturing engineering services to support cellular manufacturing and timely new product introductions. Engineering services include process development, process validation, and cell design.

How You'll Create Impact

  • Conducting feasibility study to estimate product cost and analyze capital equipment, capacity, and capability requirements affecting the make versus buy decision.
  • Establishing process methods which meet performance and quality requirements.
  • Establishing preliminary bill of materials and routers.
  • Developing a wide a variety of applications, including machining, finishing, forging, casting, and molding.
  • Identifying a variety of options and quickly choosing the most appropriate processes and machining methods.
  • Designing and conducting advanced process validations for unique processes.
  • Supports the NPI team atmosphere and helps coordinate CNC programming, Tool Design, process design, and Sample creation.
  • Developing and maintaining production/engineering budgets.
  • Leading cross-functional teams in product and process development.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Skilled and knowledgeable in manufacturing and new product processing.
  • Must have effectively developed processing on a new development project; mastered a minimum of two skill sets as defined by Engineering Review Board; and have experience in supervising a manufacturing cell.
  • Advanced knowledge in control procedures, such as the Engineering Change Notification (ECN) and Deviation process, Operation Control Procedures (OCPs), Zimmer Engineering Specifications (ZESs), and Zimmer Laboratory Procedures (ZLPs).
  • Advanced knowledge of drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to perform extensive DOE's and drive to a full process validation (OQ / PQ).
  • Ability to balance marketing, manufacturing, and design requirements to meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrates ownership of and ability to lead projects with a broad scope and high level of complexity and able to prioritize and complete work in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Demonstrates advanced problem solving skills through the use of quality and statistical tools.
  • Ability to effectively lead a new product cross functional team from initial design stage to introduction to market.
  • Demonstrates exceptional written and verbal communication exhibiting a high level technical expertise, tact and discretion, and keeps management appropriately informed.
  • Ability to represent Zimmer in any manufacturing capacity.
  • Can present and discuss manufacturing issues with internal and external personnel (surgeons, distributors, vendors, sales associates, etc.).


Your Background

  • A minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other Engineering science is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of manufacturing process development experience is required.
