Mechanical Design Engineers on the Cell Engineering Team have the opportunity and responsibility to drive impact on the entire product line and product roadmap.Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. This requires you to be extremely rigorous and to hold your designs to the highest standard of quality, reliability, and manufacturability. Responsibilities
  • Full design ownership of Li-on cell mechanical components and assemblies, from concept through production launch and ramp
  • Develop and deliver new technologies to advance product performance while driving down cost and mass
  • Own basic analysis, prototyping, and testing; support advanced analysis, prototyping and testing
  • Produce and release detailed 2D part and assembly drawings
  • Define technical specifications (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)
  • Participate in sourcing and managing of engineering relationships with suppliers
  • Hands on support of manufacturing process and automation development
  • Drive cross functional collaboration with CAE, manufacturing, and test teams to mature products from concept to production
  • Author documentation and deliver technical presentations
  • Research and benchmark competitive technologies, conduct DFMEA and Fault Tree analysis


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics and heat transfer, familiarity with properties and applications of common engineering metals and polymers
  • Strong communication skills and team mentality
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (proficiency is a plus), proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA V5/V6 experience is a plus)
  • Experience in designing for one or more high volume manufacturing processes such as stamping, deep drawing, plastic injection molding, heat treating, and metal welding
  • Familiarity with Lithium-ion battery cell, module, and pack design, preferred
  • Experience in designing for high volume automated assembly, preferred
  • Direct machine shop fabrication and prototyping skills, preferred
  • Proficiency in structural and/or thermal FEA, preferred
  • Experience with test design and setup, data acquisition and analysis, ability to travel to support product launch and ramp (supplier visits, Tesla factories, etc.), preferred

    • Expected Compensation

      $80,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
