We are looking for a talented Product Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate Business in Columbus, IN and/or your remote home office.

This product focused, early career position performs product development tasks in alignment with established customer/market requirements applicable across all of Cummins Products.

In this role you will:
  • Investigate product issues to understand product functions and failure mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution and document results, all with guidance from more experienced team members.
  • Learn how our products are used and identify how we can add value to each downstream customer in the value chain (OEM, Fleet, End-User)
  • Work with cross-functional teams to learn important technical and broader business knowledge that, with ongoing success in your role, will enable a multi-faceted combination of career path opportunities limited only by your unique interests and career path aspirations.
  • Work within one or more Cummins product lifecycle processes from new technology integration, new product development, tailoring existing products and making product enhancements to those already in mass production. This knowledge will carry with you regardless of which products you choose to work on at Cummins.
  • Utilize technical problem solving, risk assessment and decision-making tools to ensure product change management activities are aligned with customer requirements.
  • Own problem resolution for moderately complex components or lower complexity product systems and sub-systems.
  • Contribute toward team goals, exhibiting your influence, developing capabilities within a work group and develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to your success in the role.

You will make an impact by
  • Applying engineering principles learned as a part of your college degree to resolve real-world product problems,
  • Actively engaging in product change management activities including design ideation, risk assessment and mitigation via analytical and experimental methods.
  • Ensuring product and customer requirements are met by learning and applying Systems Engineering principles to your everyday work,
  • Leveraging data analysis to understand risk and make product decisions,
  • Collaborating and communicating effectively (both verbal and written) with key stakeholders and colleagues

  • Documenting and presenting your learnings and plans in the form of PowerPoint presentations to customers and management as well as writing technical reports.

To be successful in this role you will need:
  • A College, University or equivalent Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field.
  • Good communication skills along with strengths in logic, planning and decision making.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools or equivalents, especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Prior hands-on product experience is preferred, but not required.
  • A postgraduate (Masters or PhD) degree is typically NOT required for Product Engineer roles.

Major Programs Typically Considered: All Engineering Majors

Cummins Full Time Requirements:
  • College, university or equivalent technical experience required
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA required
  • Must be able to complete 40 hours per week
  • 0-2 years in a position/internship relating to your field of study preferred

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
