Our facility in Billerica, Massachusetts is located in the metropolitan Boston area and specializes in the design and manufacturing of advanced photonics products based on MEMS and other micro-scale optical devices. Our unique technology enables the highest system performance in the most compact and cost-effective formats in a variety of applications.

We are presently seeking a Production Supervisor that will supervise the implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. The right candidate for this role will plan and administer procedures within the production department. The Production Supervisor will develop schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas as well as selects, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation.

Your responsibilities:
Administrative
  • Ensure all procedures utilized in manufacturing are current and up to date;
  • Track employee attendance records on a daily basis;
  • Present new documents and train employees as required;
  • Communicate vital information and company communications;
  • Write and deliver employee performance reviews.


Logistical Responsibilities
  • Track inventory accuracy of WIP and components;
  • Ensure the right products are produced per current production plan;
  • Communicate production issues to planning and management;
  • Communicates any component issues to purchasing when necessary;
  • Track all production activity in company ERP system;
  • Ensure objectives relating to product costs, product quality and product availability are met.


GMP/Safety/Documentation
  • Ensure a safe work environment is maintained at all times;
  • Communicate effectively with management and other support teams;
  • Ensure Manufacturing guidelines are followed at all times;
  • Communicates process improvement suggestions to engineering and management;


General Duties
  • Makes recommendations regarding staffing;
  • Maintains real time production output metrics;
  • Properly balances staffing per production area;
  • Manages WIP inventories as well as labor efficiencies;
  • Coordinate Group leader activities and cross departmental activities.


Your requirements:

EDUCATION:
  • BS degree or equivalent years' experience


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, 3 of which have supervisor/lead responsibilities;
  • Proven experience in leading others with a proactive attitude;
  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, Visio, etc.) required;
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and of generally accepted office practices, procedures and equipment;
  • Strong manufacturing background with evidence of process evaluation knowledge is a plus.


ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • APICS Certified;
  • Lean and 5s training.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Microsoft Office skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties;
  • Strong attention to details;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workflow and to meet established timeframes;
  • Ability to maintain updated knowledge of procedures, products and activities of assigned area;
  • Ability to adhere/respond to established time frames and schedules;
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others.


PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:
  • Develops solutions to a variety of problems; ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to hear and speak to employees and outside business associates on the phone and in person;
  • Requires moderate right and left hand coordination for the use of the personal computer;
  • Ability to lift 25+ lbs.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Supervises nonexempt staff; makes hire, termination and promotion recommendation to manager.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • May require travel to vendor site.
