Description: Job Summary:

The Professional Development Consultant is responsible for identifying, planning, implementing and providing training programs with an evidence-based approach to promote the ability of staff to deliver high quality, patient-centered and cost effective Care for all Continuing Care Service (CCS) Team Members including, but not limited to, new hire orientation, preceptor program, patient medical record/documentation, and clinical staff continuous education. Will take the lead in area of clinical expertise in assigned CCS Program to evaluate and provide education and training for an interdisciplinary team that meets all CMS, State and Joint Commission regulations and standards. Will assist Program and Team Managers/Supervisors to provide clinical expertise leadership and education. The Professional Development Consultant may be assigned to one of three specific programs/focus within CCS and is the expert clinical educational resource in that assigned area. In addition, the Professional Development Consultant will have broad knowledge in all programs and will serve as an educational resource for all educational programs and focuses within CCS. CCS Programs include: Home Health/Home Infusion, Hospice/Palliative Care.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Educational Programs/Activities: Identification creation, provision, and tracking of training programs, materials, curriculums, and educational activities for new hires and current staff that is based on best practice, addresses educational needs/practice gaps, is cost effective, and meets all CMS, State, regulatory, professional and Joint Commission accreditation requirements. May solicit other content experts to teach educational activities; however, the Professional Development Consultant is responsible to ensure the teaching material is based on best practice and supports the learning needs of the program through identifying and meeting objectives. Coordinates with Team Managers/Supervisors and Quality Program Manager to assure the continuum of education supports the organizational educational needs and the CCS individual professional growth. Primary focus for role (but not limited to): New hire orientation, preceptor program, and ongoing education for clinical staff.

  • Clinical Practice Leader: In collaboration with Team Mangers/Supervisors and Quality Program Manager, analyzes educational needs and determines priorities to maintain standards of care and practice performance. In collaboration with Team Mangers/Supervisors and Quality Program Manager, develop training strategies to impact and maintain performance outcomes. In collaboration with Team Mangers/Supervisors and Quality Program Manager, develop and support train the trainer opportunities. Provides review of materials and supports trainers in the delivery of department and program education. Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and upholding the KP Nursing vision and strategy. Participates as requested in regional and national committees that influence clinical practice and delivery of quality and patient centered care.

  • In collaboration with Team Mangers/Supervisors and Quality Program Manager, assists program leaders in review of policies and procedures. Ensure curriculum supports approved current policy and processes. Support CCS Leadership in communication and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in community health, home health, infusion services, hospice, and/or palliative care

  • Minimum three (3) years recent nursing direct patient care experience

  • Minimum two (2) years in providing clinical education, curriculum development, leading group work, presenting, and/or precepting
Education

  • Bachelors degree in nursing or a minimum of (4) four years experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required before hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 3 months of hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse within 3 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 3 months of hire
  • Drivers License (in location where applicable)
  • Basic Life Support within 0.5 months of hire
Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Medicare, The Joint Commission, and State Requirements/Regulations for home care programs
  • Strong customer focused skills
  • Strong oral and written skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of computer skills (Microsoft platform -or similar platform: i.e.: word, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing).
  • COS-C certification is required within 6 months of hire for Professional Development Consultants supporting Home Health/HIT.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum three (3) experience as a registered nurse in the hospice, palliative care, home infusion, home health, or community health.
  • Minimum two (2) management or leadership experience.
  • Minimum five (5) recent clinical experience in acute care, ambulatory care, or case management/population health care services.
  • Certification in Professional Development or a CCS program (SNF, Community Health, or Hospice)
  • Knowledge of state of the art audio visual and related instructional equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Lean six sigma green belt certification or higher.
  • Certification in Project Management.Experience with teaching and adult learning.
  • Masters degree in Nursing.
