Job Description:

This particular job posting is a "Pool" position. There may or may not be available openings at this time however, when an opening does occur, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants we have on file on an as needed basis. General Statement of Duties

Professional Learning Consultants (Professional Tutors) hold consultations with students in the Learning Success Center (Academic Support and Testing Center) or other programs. This process involves establishing rapport; understanding individual student learning styles, skills, and needs; facilitating student growth and independence as active learners through engagement in course, professional, and other similarly appropriate materials and content; and documenting and reporting on consultations. Consultations may be held individually, in small groups, or in a round-robin style, and face-to-face or online via synchronous technology such as Zoom. Consultants (Professional Tutors) should be available to work in at least two of three venues: Gardner, Leominster, and online.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group consultation in-person, online, and/or concurrently as the situation requires;
  • Provide consultations and workshops on executive function development, including time and effort management, resource organization, study and note-taking skills, test-taking skills, or related topics as needed;
  • Implement Grit, Growth Mindset, and Universal Design for Learning philosophies and strategies in consultation design and student interaction;
  • Develop rapport with students to understand learning styles, strategies, and needs that shape consultations;
  • Collaborate with students to set consultation learning goals;
  • Use appropriate learning techniques and strategies to achieve learning goals, including but not limited to VARK, Bloom's Taxonomy, Gradual Release of Responsibility, Socratic Method, SQ3R, etc.;
  • Model proven learning behaviors by exercising appropriate study and data search activities for finding new or verifying existing content knowledge and concepts;
  • Support in-house student questions related to learning technology access, including LMS systems (Blackboard, MyLab), printing, and productivity suites (Microsoft, Google);
  • Complete documentation and correspondence related to consultation, employment, and work-related duties in a timely and thorough manner;
  • Interact with students using proven interpersonal communication skills, including active listening, wait time, paraphrasing, etc.;
  • Maintain ethical and professional boundaries with students;
  • Refer students to appropriate student services and academic affairs resources as needed;
  • Staff the program area during in-house shifts;
  • Assist with the general upkeep and appearance of the program area;
  • Lead or assist in the design, development, and review of the program's instructional and operations material (e.g. Learning Success Guide (http://library.mwcc.edu/lsc) and other materials related to LSC operations);
  • Assist in new consultant professional development design and implementation as needed;
  • Engage in regular program-designated professional development (2 events minimum) each semester;
  • Maintain knowledge of practic;
  • Refer concerns and questions to the program director as needed;
  • Perform other work-related tasks as requested by the program director.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to serve a variety of student demographics, including historically marginalized students, first generation, and students with accommodations;

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior teaching or tutoring experience

  • Humanities & Fine Arts (Theatre Appreciation, Art & Art Appreciation, Literature)

Candidates with credentials and/or experience in multiple areas are preferred.
