Job Description

The Virginia Tech Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) invites applicants with industry experience for a non-tenure track Professor of Practice position based in Blacksburg. The successful candidate for this position will be part of the ISE Capstone ("Senior Design") Program Teaching Team and have additional teaching and lab management responsibilities with a potential start date of November 18, 2024. A primary component of this position is building and maintaining relationships with project sponsoring organizations. The ISE undergraduate program has consistently achieved top national academic rankings (#3 currently) in the US News & World Report). This open rank Professor of Practice position (assistant, associate, or full) commensurate with experience, is an Academic Year (AY) position with the opportunity to earn up to three months additional summer salary, contingent upon availability of funds from company sponsorships for projects.

Required Qualifications

- Advanced ISE degree or significant operations experience working in an industrial engineering role
-Strong communication skills in all modes -- verbal, written, and visual -- with many different levels and types of stakeholders (CEO's, undergraduate students, production operators, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in and leading teams, including coordinating tasks, building a collaborative environment, and facilitating open communication
- Willingness and ability to travel to sponsor sites and abide by sponsor safety rules when visiting
- Ability to work with industry to obtain student project funding.
- Demonstrated experience developing program budgets and adhering to financial reporting requirements

Preferred Qualifications

- PhD in ISE or related field
-Teaching experience (classroom or corporate training environments)
- Experience working in or engaging with a higher education environment where distance learning, online instruction, and remote meetings are common
- Experience in an operations environment (manufacturing, healthcare, finance, etc.) where safe work practices are a high priority
