The Program Administrative Specialist will provide administrative/project management to the newly-formed Maryland Center for Community Schools in the College of Education. The candidate will work in a fast-paced environment that requires team interaction and coordination of effort, working as part of a team and serving as a primary point of contact for selected projects and activities. The candidate will organize meetings, support social media outreach, and provide administrative support to ongoing projects inside and outside the university. This position will report directly to the Center Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Support the Center team through a full range of clerical to paraprofessional duties related to the day-to-day operations of the center including scheduling meetings and note-taking at meetings, keeping records of Center activities.
  • Support effective, ongoing collaboration and communication between and among all partners, inside and outside the university.
  • Collect and manage data collected by the Center, may prepare, and organize data for various activities, including but not limited to draft reports, recommendations, and other information resources for use by the center provide support as the Center prepares accountability reports.
  • Ensure that a social media presence is regular as the Center launches its public information campaign about community schools.
  • Plan conference travel and annual conference hosted at Towson University.
  • Send communications to advisory board, as well as internal and external partners, respond to Center emails.
  • Keep track of Center budget details and prepare reports that show how funding has been used.


Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Four years of experience in administrative staff work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, social justice, and community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to interact with internal and external partners of the university.
  • Strong communication skills, highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (including OneDrive) as well as social media platforms.
  • Proficiency with virtual meeting spaces/platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet).


Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Salary and Benefits

$51,069 annually and a contract that offers annual leave, holidays, sick days and tuition remission.
