All positions at the public education department are based in Santa Fe, however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

The Student Success and Wellness Bureau (SSWB) administers the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Program for 210 School Food Authorities (Districts, Charters, BIE's, Private and RCCI's) across the state of New Mexico.

Vision: The SSWB is committed to ensuring all school-aged children have equal access to healthy meals and receive the resources needed to be successful in their educational goals and objectives.

Why does the job exist?

This position will assist in providing technical assistance to over 215 school food authorities that are having difficulties meeting the requirement of Senate Bill 4 and the universal free meals, assist the schools in creating ways to meet compliance with nutrition, scratch cooking,, incorporating NM Grown Foods and eliminating food waste. It will assist in working closely with the Governor's Office to ensure the program is meeting federal and state requirements and become a champion for advocating for universal free meals. This position will also work closely with different agencies including school districts, non-profits and state agencies.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities are providing technical assistance with school districts, help to meet meal pattern requirements under USDA regulations and work closely with developing a rubric to help schools meet nutrition requirements related to creating recipes, great tasting meals and incorporating local produce and beef and creating healthy nutritious meals.

Who are the customers?

Job is done for school districts, charter schools, bureau of Indian Education entities, residential child care institutions and private schools. The main customers at these entities are food service directors.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in nutrition education needed.
Familiarity with USDA regulations and the National School Lunch Program
Bachelor's Degree in any field.
Experience with oversight of grant programs.
Technical assistance and customer service experience preferred
Ability to to communicate in large groups.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) years program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, tablet, printer, calculator, cellphone, copy machine, scanner, keyboard, and telephone usage. Occasional travel, working extra hours, working on weekends and holidays.
