The Honors College at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Program Coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Research.

About the Opportunity

The program coordinator works in collaboration with the Director of Undergraduate Research to implement undergraduate research programs from inception to completion and to include all programmatic aspects, such as, general programming (e.g., recruitment, advising, workshops, trainings, speakers, culminating symposia), mentoring and meeting with students, program advertisement and application, participant tracking, search for and manage funding for the undergraduate research programs. The program coordinator may supervise one or more graduate assistants or undergraduate students.

What you'll do:

  • Coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Undergraduate Research (UGR) and all its programs: daily contact with instructors, students and student faculty mentors; payroll management, awards to students.
  • Supervise graduate students and undergraduates who assist in the Office of Undergraduate Research.
  • Develop and coordinate the campus awareness of the UGR programing, external research opportunities, recruitment and selection of undergraduate researchers and faculty mentors through newsletter, social media website, and university communications.
  • Organize research symposia for undergraduates.
  • Maintain and develop programming to engage students in communicating their research in forms appropriate to their discipline including on-campus and off-campus events and activities.
  • Manage travel funding programs through the UGR including applications, communications, awards and expenses, reconciliations.
  • Maintain records with data available and provide as needed to students, faculty, departments, and administrators.
  • Correspond with alumni and track their graduate school pursuits.
  • Represent (along with the UGR Director) the Office of Undergraduate Research and its programming to internal and external constituencies.
  • Lead the social aspects of summer undergraduate research programs and academic year programming.
  • Lead educational trips events/trips and escort students to local, national, and international research conferences
  • Assist with grant renewal, grant reporting processes and Office of Undergraduate Research annual report.
  • Serve on college/university committees representing the Honors College.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with units inside WVU, especially the Mountaineer HUB, Shared Services, Honors College, ASPIRE and Pre-Health Offices, and the Honors EXCEL program.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's and equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.

  • Strong mentoring and advising skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong familiarity of undergraduate and graduate research skills and programming
  • Experience with communications through newsletters, email campaigns or similar.
  • Strong experience with organization of scholarly events
  • Experience with institutionalized programs and processes such as: Mountaineer Marketplace, Banner, STAR, Applaud, Clean Slate, Qualtrics, Shared Services, WVU+kc, iServe, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and to use discretion in decision-making
  • Administrative decision making and problem solving
  • Ability to work with a team.
