PROGRAM DIRECTORCLINICIAN EDUCATOR

DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY AND COMMUNITY MEDICINEMEDICAL COLLEGE OF WISCONSIN

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, as residency program director, the candidate will direct the following activities:
  • Program Administration: Submit accurate and complete information required and requested by the Chair, DIO, WiNC, ACGME, Prevea Health, HSHS St. Mary's Hospital Medical Center, and St. Vincent Hospital leadership. Ensure compliance with Sponsoring Institution, healthcare partners' policies and procedures including employment and non-discrimination as well as grievances and due process. Verify resident training for all graduating residents within 30 days of the request, and appoint members of the CCC and PEC.
  • Planning and Design of the Residency Program: Responsible for developing and implementing residency program goals, budgets, policies and procedures and work plans. Monitor the financial performance, achieve established targets and be accountable for results.
  • Teaching Staff and other Program Personnel: Responsible for selecting, developing, supervising and evaluating faculty and staff. Develop and implement training as education updates are necessary
  • Recruitment, Selection, Supervision, Evaluation and Promotion of Residents: Responsible for recruiting and selecting residents in accordance with institutional and developmental policies and procedures. Ensure that all residents are adequately supervised in carrying out their patient care responsibilities. Ensure regular and formal evaluation of residents with participation of the teaching staff. Identify residents that need individualized educational plans and develop IEPs and remediation plans as needed. Prepare residents for their duties with proper onboarding activities.
  • Professionalism: Role model professionalism including: compassion, integrity, and respect for others
  • Dispute Resolution: Ensure the documentation of fair procedures regarding academic discipline and resident complaints or grievances.
  • Resident Well-being: Establish mechanisms to monitor resident's stress, including mental and emotional conditions that may inhibit performance and addressing learning and dysfunctional behavior.
  • Planning: Identify the need for revising existing programs or developing new programs in response to changing community, patient, resident and physician needs and expectations and alignment with health system and Sponsoring Institution missions.
  • Facilitating Curriculum Development and Implementation: Ensure that the curriculum is forward thinking, meeting "state of the art" and RRC expectations.
  • Quality Improvement: Ensure performance improvement consistent with quality improvement programs in MCW, DFCM and the discipline.
  • Representation on Committees: Represent the program on the Department Advisory Council, Residency Directors Committee, Hospital Medical Executive Committee, Resident Volume Task Force, Family Medicine Residency Steering Committee, Residency Advisory Committee, POCUS Department Committee and other committees when asked to serve.
  • Preceptor Role and Teaching Responsibilities: Fulfill responsibilities as a faculty physician in providing preceptorship and conducting various clinical conferences and special activities in coordination with other faculty members.
  • Clinical Medical Practice: Maintain a part-time clinical practice in Family Medicine to include ambulatory practice as well as participation in the Inpatient Teaching Service and Hospital Call coverage.
  • Goals and Objectives: Will be set annually during the shared annual review process between the Chair of Family Medicine Department and Residency Director.
  • Clinical and Scholarship: The ideal family physician will take a scholarly approach to patient care. The director of the program is responsible for facilitating both the clinical training and the scholarly development of the residents. The director will serve as a scholarly role model for residents and faculty.
  • Accreditation: Responsible for obtaining and maintaining full accreditation with Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. Maintaining full compliance with the Residency Review Committee on Family Medicine, special requirements, and the institutional requirements. Maintaining knowledge of current and proposed changes in accreditation requirements and preparing program for complete compliance with requirements.
  • Represents the Residency Program: Makes community and public presentations to various boards, medical staffs, councils, civic, community groups, or other legal bodies to augment support of the family medicine residency by explaining its mission, accomplishments, rules and regulations. Presents at regional, national and international conferences and organizations to positively reflect on the program and family medicine as a specialty.
  • Associate Program Director: Collaborate with, develop and oversee the work of the Associate Program Director to successfully administer the residency program in accordance with the Associate Program Director job description.

General Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in patient care, teaching, communication skills, and time management
  • Experience and demonstrated success in leadership.
Specific Requirements
  • Completed residency training in family medicine and board certification/recertification in family medicine.
  • Ability to obtain medical licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Full time status in the Department of Family and Community Medicine with an adherence to the rules of the Medical College of Wisconsin and the Clinical Practice Plan.
  • Ability to be credentialed on the medical staff of appropriate hospitals in the designated area.
Substantial experience (minimum three years) in a GME residency program or related administrative role
