Responsibilities

The Communications Director serves as a senior management team member by contributing to strategic planning, goal setting, implementing policies and evaluating activities that improve the visibility of the law school and the university. Responsible for planning, administering, reviewing and evaluating all activities related to law school communications.

Communications Strategy

As the mastermind behind our communications plan, the incumbent in this position will use their creativity and professional experience to develop and implement integrated marketing strategies to elevate our brand and profile in the community and online. Responsible for formulating, directing, and coordinating strategic marketing activities to promote and increase the visibility of the College of Law. Distills, sharpens, and focuses our message to showcase the College of Law's distinction in academic excellence. This role offers a strategic thinker the chance to develop and deliver the yearly communications plan to the Dean and senior leaders of the College of Law. Guide the assessment and implementation of top-tier brand and image strategies for the College of Law to maintain uniformity and ensure that such efforts contribute to improving our reputation and rankings; successful recruitment of exceptional students; hiring of faculty members; advancement of College of Law centers and institutes; and bolstering our fundraising initiatives.

Interdepartmental Assistance

As a team player, collaborates across departments to facilitate effective communication, media, and marketing efforts for the College of Law. Responsible for developing materials and content collaboratively with different departments to promote faculty research, showcase student activities and success stories, and highlight programs and career opportunities. Engaging with alumni will also be a key aspect. Leading efforts to create and distribute materials for student recruitment. Additionally, actively support departments in planning and executing marketing campaigns. To enhance student enrollment and meet objectives, devise and implement creative advertising strategies while ensuring consistent branding and measurable results. Provide guidance to the Dean and senior management team on effectively communicating our achievements to both the university community and external audiences.

Marketing

Because branding matters, plays a vital role in planning, developing, and executing effective marketing strategies for the College of Law. Key responsibilities include implementing multi-channel campaigns, analyzing data to target intended audiences, leading brand, and image strategies, and creating tailored plans for academic programs and revenue generation. Additionally, actively participate in decision-making regarding contracts with external advertising agencies, ensuring the maintenance of approved logos, and upholding the University's brand standards and guidelines across all platforms.

Media Opportunities

As part of our strategic communication efforts, collaborate closely with media outlets to showcase the expertise of our distinguished faculty. Maximize media opportunities by cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with media professionals, influencers, and community leaders. Through proactive engagement, we aim to generate comprehensive coverage across various aspects, including our programs, administration, faculty, and students.

As the overseer of media relations, manage news releases specifically tailored for the College of Law. Responsible for maintaining and expanding media databases, ensuring they align with each department and research theme within the College. Leverage university resources to provide comprehensive media training and coaching to our esteemed faculty, empowering them to effectively engage with the media and communicate their insights and accomplishments. Demonstrates a commitment to strategic media engagement, significantly enhancing the visibility and reputation of the College of Law in the broader community.

Budgeting

As part of our financial stewardship, diligently monitor communication's spending to ensure strict adherence to budgetary restrictions. Tracks return on investment (ROI) metrics, such as clicks and measurable results, to assist the Dean and senior management in evaluating expenditures related to content creation, messaging, communication channels, and advertising. Maintain a keen eye on all purchasing activities, ensuring they align with university policies and procedures. Attention to detail and financial acumen will contribute to effective resource management and accountability within our communication initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years of experience related to media, communications, and/or marketing services, or a high school diploma or equivalent and the same experience equal to ten years. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
