Description

Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.
  1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
  2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
  3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
  6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
  7. May administer grants and grant-related related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

This position provides administrative and project management support to student programs and projects, executive education and training, and communications and marketing at the Hobby School of Public Affairs.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Supports the mission of the Hobby School to prepare the next generation of public service leaders and professionals through interdisciplinary teaching, training, and public service opportunities.
  • Supports multiple student programs and projects and executive education and training.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with faculty and staff across the University of Houston and community partners, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other universities.
  • Coordinates administrative operations, including room reservations, vendor searches, voucher processing, tracking student scholarships and stipends, ordering supplies and parking validations, and handling catering orders.
  • Provides administrative support for special projects and initiatives as assigned and acts in other matters and capacities as delegated.
  • Contributes to website content updates for student programs.
  • May compile information for various student programs and activities for impact reporting or other documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
  • Multitasks and adapts to changing circumstances and shifting priorities in a high-profile environment.

Qualifications

Bachelors and No experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.
