Job Duties

This position is a statewide mobile position, applicants can be located anywhere in Virginia. The role will include statewide travel (travel minimal).

The Reentry and Recovery Services Unit is committed to enhancing long lasting public safety through effective evidence-based programs and services. The Unit develops and oversees meaningful opportunities for incarcerated individuals, programs and services to support reentry needs and post release services for those on probation and parole supervision.

To oversee planning, implementation and on-going quality control of institution-wide
approaches to inmate management, specifically related to the incarcerated veteran population, based on the principles of evidence-based practices. To enhance service availability to the incarcerated Veteran Population and Veterans on Probation and Parole Supervision within the VADOC. Enhance and ensure access to Veterans related benefits, housing opportunities, specialized behavioral health services and family reintegration opportunities. To expand collaboration with community stakeholders, state agencies and other partners to increase services to criminal justice involved Veteran population.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of correctional operations and best practices in the field of corrections, including both correctional centers and probation/parole. Solid understanding and experience of military branches and unique cultures associated with each of the seven branches of military service. Considerable experience with policy related to veterans' programs. Ability to collaborate with Veteran Service Organizations to enhance veterans' services while incarcerated and upon release. Considerable experience with veteran-related resources to include public benefit assistance programs, housing, medical services, etc. Demonstrated experience in public speaking and training other professionals. Must be able to serve as a liaison between agency personnel and various community stakeholders. Computer skills, multi-tasking ability, and effective time-management skills are critical. Must have demonstrated skill in developing partnerships between DOC and community service providers. Previous Supervisory experience (supervises one part-time advocate position). Skills to utilize virtual platforms for meetings and trainings.

Additional Considerations

Extensive experience in corrections. Prefer applicant with prior military experience. Working knowledge of evidence-based research and practices for justice-involved veteran population. Working knowledge of reentry programs and services available to inmates.
