SUMMARY: Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining emergency plans to ensure safety, coordinating with various departments and external partners. This job requires extensive amounts of writing, planning, and coordinating.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilize your experience in maritime shipping/transportation industry to develop, implement, and update emergency preparedness, response, and business continuity plans for maritime and land transport operations. Coordinate with port directors, ship captains, crew, and federal agencies, including the US Coast Guard, to ensure vessel and crew safety and to support response efforts during incidents and disasters. Conduct risk assessments, lead preparedness committees, and collaborate with departments like safety, security, and operations. Serve as the primary contact during emergencies, managing response efforts, communication, and resources within the Incident Command System (ICS). Design and implement ICS compliant training programs, coordinate and conduct regular emergency drills and exercises on a Microsoft Teams platform for sea and land-based operations. Oversee recovery, conduct after-action reviews, and ensure compliance with maritime regulations. Manage emergency preparedness budgets, maintain communication protocols, and coordinate and provide timely information to corporate teams during crises. Stay updated on industry trends and submit required reports to regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public safety, business administration, or a related field; or a combination of post high school and equal experience may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE: 5 years of experience in emergency management, business continuity planning, or a related role, preferably in the maritime or logistics industry. Strong knowledge of emergency management principles and practices with current ICS 300 and 400 certifications.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient with Microsoft office products, including Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and SharePoint and emergency management software.

COMPETENCIES: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal/external business partners. Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment. Ability to gather, interpret, report and/or edit information. Ability to interpret complex data and make sound decisions. Ability to function effectively with, or as part of, a team. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Ability to evaluate process effectiveness and develop changes or alternatives. Knowledgeable of federal and state, foreign as appropriate, oil spill preparedness and response statutes, regulations and associated requirements. Knowledge of industry standard practices in emergency management testing/implementation, compliance principles and practices. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

OTHER: This position may require occasional evening and weekend work. Must be available on-call to respond to emergencies as needed. Travel may be required for training and coordination with external agencies.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders. May require extended use of computer keyboard and viewing of computer monitor and ability to sit for long periods of time
