We offer prevention education for students, confidential support for survivors (students, faculty, and staff), and partnerships with other offices to offer training, programs, and innovative community engagement strategies that strive to collectively create a campus free from violence.

Job Summary

The Program Manager for Prevention Education: Men's Engagement serves on SAPAC's Prevention Education team and is responsible for the leadership and development of The Michigan Men program as well as other prevention programming that encompasses the socialization of gender, social justice, harm reduction and wellness promotion. The position involves program and curriculum development; supervision of student staff and peer educators; ongoing facilitation training for peer educators; ongoing student leadership development efforts; partnering with units engaged in overlapping and intersecting work; evaluating programs for effectiveness; outreach and recruitment efforts and managing the overall infrastructure for Michigan Men. This position also supports SAPAC's prevention education efforts through presentations, training, and workshop facilitation.

Responsibilities*

Oversee SAPAC Sponsored Student Organization: Michigan Men (30%)
  • Oversee approximately 15 student volunteers and 2 student staff members
  • Assist with SAPAC's anti-racism efforts in creating spaces that are accessible, welcoming, affirming, and inclusive, with a focus on mattering and belonging in student-led spaces
  • Assist in developing curriculum and programming that is culturally informed and centers the unique backgrounds, identities, and experiences of the students we serve
  • Research emerging and relevant pedagogy around sexual misconduct prevention, peer education, student development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and incorporate concepts into programming content
  • Ensure curriculum alignment with other sexual misconduct prevention programs at SAPAC and across the institution; institutional guidelines and policies; State and Federal policies; and best practices
  • Oversee the development of student-facilitated workshops that encompass healthy masculinity, well-being, social justice and harm reduction
  • Oversee peer education requests for Michigan Men and ensure collaboration with relevant partners
  • Provide individual support, guidance, and referrals as needed for Michigan Men student staff and volunteers
  • Oversee attendance tracking and mandatory requirements of volunteers
  • Support annual Sponsored Student Organization (SSO) re-registration processes including SSO agreement and Constitution renewal process and Authorized Signer identification
  • Oversee the ongoing evaluation of Michigan Men educational programming in partnership with the Assessment Liaison within SAPAC
    • Develop and manage program assessment and evaluation mechanisms to improve and enhance the workshops and create reports that highlight program impact
  • Oversee communications related to Michigan Men
  • Manage budgets for Michigan Men programming
  • Support volunteer training efforts of Michigan Men under the direction of the Assistant Director for Prevention Education and Student Engagement
  • Assist with student recognition and appreciation events

Student Staff Leadership Development and Supervision (30%)
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Co-coordinators for Michigan Men
    • Meet weekly with co-coordinators for supervision, mentorship, and program oversight
    • Coordinate annual co-coord evaluation
    • Track student staff hours and approve student staff timesheets (with support from the Admin Assistant)
    • Lead annual recruitment and hiring processes for new student co-coordinators
  • Support execution of SAPAC-wide Leadership Development Initiatives under the direction of the Assistant Director for Prevention Education and Student Engagement
  • Co-facilitate weekly student co-coordinator meetings focused on leadership development and program management with the Program Manager for Prevention Education: Undergraduate Engagement
    • Implement programming with a focus on identity development, leadership skill building, and program management techniques
    • Guide student co-coordinators in the development of a Mportfolio project that displays their philosophy statement, experience showcase, and future testimonial
  • Develop curriculum and support execution of Annual Student Staff Retreat under the direction of Assistant Director for Prevention Education and Student Engagement

Community Engagement, Consultation and Partnership Building (25%)
  • Build, innovate and maintain new relationships with internal and external partners (on and off campus) to expand the reach of the Michigan Men program.
  • Create and facilitate workshops upon request, focused on healthy masculinity and engaging men in sexual misconduct prevention work through a primary, secondary and tertiary prevention model.
  • Serve as the SAPAC lead and facilitator for Impact trainings, a collaboration with the Dean of Student's Office and other Student Life offices on sexual violence prevention, hazing prevention, and alcohol and other drug misuse prevention. This program is for Athletics, Fraternity and Sorority Life, ROTC and the Michigan Marching Band.
  • Serve as a SAPAC lead and facilitator for the Science-based Treatment, Accountability and Risk Reduction for Sexual Assault (STARRSA) program in partnership with the Office for Student Conflict Resolution (OSCR). The STARRSA program's target population is the "emerging adult" undergraduate student who has violated university policies regarding sexual misconduct. This program is a 1:1 program with a student and a trained facilitator, that is completed by modules over 8-20 weeks.
  • Serve as a Circle facilitator in support of SAPAC's Community Engagement program in providing circle-based interventions for students, student organizations, and other groups as necessary.

Additional Areas of Responsibility (10%)
  • Attend weekly meetings with the SAPAC staff.
  • Attend weekly prevention team meetings.
  • Attend regular individual meetings with direct supervisor and additional team meetings as necessary.
  • Support overarching development of SAPAC & PEAR (Prevention, Education, Assistance and Resources) Strategic Plan by coordinating intersecting prevention efforts per the Assistant Director
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with general SAPAC special events and programs as needed.
  • Represent SAPAC at University wide events and programs as needed.
  • Participate in Divisional committees and initiatives such as the MLEAD Action Team, the Wellbeing Collective, etc
  • Other duties as assigned.

SAPAC 24/7 Support Line (5%)
  • Serve in the staff rotation of the 24/7 SAPAC Support Line
  • Make appropriate documentation for each outreach or call
  • Manage the connection between client and ongoing support in SAPAC

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, education, student affairs, or related field
  • 1+ years experience working in sexual violence prevention education, social work, public health, education, student affairs, youth development, or related field through a professional role or as part of graduate or volunteer work
  • 1+ years experience working in healthy masculinity; socialization of gender; gender studies or gender identity work
  • 1+ years experience working through lenses of social justice, cultural competence, intersection of identities, and empowerment of historically marginalized and underserved populations through a professional role or as part of graduate or volunteer work
  • 1+ years experience with program planning and/or project management through a professional role or as part of graduate or volunteer work
  • 1+ years experience with student supervision and/or peer education through a professional role or as part of graduate or volunteer work
  • Knowledge/experience in public health, health promotion, social change models/principles, and/or student development theories/practice
  • Knowledge associated with the design and delivery of prevention and training programs
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Working conditions
  • Must have a flexible work schedule; some evenings and weekends.

Financial/Budgetary Responsibility
  • Responsibility and oversight for a budget of approximately $3,000

Direct Reports
  • Supervise approximately 2-4 undergraduate student and graduate student staff, including MSW or Higher Education Masters student Interns.

Additional Information

Selected candidates whose start date is after 4/1/2024 or before 8/31/2024 will not be eligible for the university FY 24-25 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.
