Position Summary:
The Interim Program Manager will coordinate the First Year and Second Year Service Learning Communities and manage the details of one course at Chester Prison.

Key tasks include:
  • Service Learning Communities
  • Supervision of Administrative Assistant and Graduate Assistant
  • Administrative responsibilities including membership on university committees that benefit OSL , management of the OSL budget, letters of recommendation for students, website maintenance.
  • Develop and Nurture Community Partnerships
Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Learning Communities
Sophomore/First Year: Intentional Community in which students take one course related to social justice, commit to 3 hours of service each week, and attend a 1 credit seminar. 125 sophomores, 40 first year students, 30 student coordinator and teaching assistants. 1 credit seminar has one professional instructor and 2 undergraduate teaching assistants.
  • Develop Curriculum, syllabus, and class outlines for two 1 credit seminars focused on development of critical consciousness and role of citizenship in a diverse society.
  • Development education program for student teaching assistants. Students will learn Skills in group facilitation/process and continued growth of the consciousness of communities marginalized by income, ethnicity, race, ability, gender or social status.
  • Orient students to the agency partners' rules, policies, procedures, methods and operations, community issue, and population served.
  • Develop infrastructure which allows the communities to serve, reflect and celebrate with community partners.
  • Manage service schedules with community partners, Management of compliance issues.
  • Create opportunities for students to make informed choice about the Sophomore Service Learning Community to populate the communities. (recruitment)
  • Prepare and implement Welcome Day, Orientation, Partnership Dinner, application interview for student leaders and perspective members of the communities.
  • Choose approved courses for Spring '25 and reserved seating for early registration for courses which allow early registration.
  • Communicate with the Students and staff who are a part of the infrastructure so that continuing is maintained for all members.
Community Partnerships
Explore and initiate new partnerships between Villanova faculty and students and schools and non-profit organizations that have a need and serve marginalized communities.

Nurture and Develop established Community partners who contribute to the education and development of our students.

Plan and implement Annual Service Summit. (optional)

Internal liaisons
  • Residence Life to negotiate space in the residence halls
  • Center Peace and Justice Education Appropriate courses for students in the learning communities or integrating service component into their courses.
  • Ethics Department Negotiate sections that are reserved for the sophomores in the learning community with syllabus that engage students in examining the issues faced by the communities they serve through ethical principles and theories.
  • ACS and Communitas The First Year Service Learning Community is houses in student development. OSL works with ACS and student development to organize students although the curriculum for 1 credit workshop is created by OSL .
  • Parking and Transportation
  • Office of Compliance: Manage compliance issues related to Service Learning Communities, Courses and grants that are working with minors. Which includes waivers for and from community partners as well as tracking background checks, prison clearances for all students who participate in our program
  • Other offices who offer opportunities for service

  • Professional staff teaching 1 credit seminar
  • Office of Diversity and Inclusion to provide workshops for student teaching assistants or communities.
  • Engineering Center for The Humanities: Connecting SLC students with VESL and field immersion experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in an applicable field.
  • Experience coordinating community-engaged learning programs.
  • Three or more years of appropriate experience in higher education, community-engaged learning, nonprofit work, community development, student leadership development, or a related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Skill set centered on social change and leadership, group dynamics, and human development.
  • Ability to initiate, develop, and sustain relationships with community agencies, students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to develop and deliver relevant workshops and trainings for students and campus stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize and implement marketing and outreach strategies
  • Computer skills: familiar with Office 365, social media outlets, Qualtrics and other applications necessary for an organizational and creative approach to communication and creative recruitment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt to internal and external partners.
  • Ability to be creative in developing programs that would contribute to student success and the development of critical consciousness.
  • Ability to leverage relationships on campus and relationships in the community to build bridges, establish linkages, and identify potential long-term partnerships.
  • A high-level of professionalism and excellent service to community partners are crucial in this position.
