Are you someone driven by innovation, with a passion for design? We are looking for professionals with traffic engineering interest, who can support the Virginia Department of transportation in constructing new roadway design to keep Virginia safe and moving!

Virginia Department of Transportation's Richmond District is seeking an experience professional to supervise, mentor and lend expertise in the development of transportation management plans, traffic control device plans, various engineering studies, field reviews of roadway safety features, and support to the construction program. Lead, direct, and coordinate the needs in identifying, prioritizing, planning, programming and project development oversight for district operations related highway maintenance and installation projects.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Skill in evaluating, investigating, gathering, analyzing data for business support and quality decisions by management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with customers.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state, local transportation rules, regulations, and policies
  • skill in organization and time management
  • skill in use of computers, software applications related to design, studies, modeling, and work zone safety.
  • Ability to supervise staff, programs, and budgets.
  • Ability to interpret, apply policies and procedures related to traffic engineering.
  • Experience in managing a large workload in an engineering environment, working with local governments, elected officials, citizens and engineering consultants.
  • Considerable knowledge of traffic engineering, design principles, traffic standards, specifications, policies, and procedures.

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or related field desired.
