VDH's Crater Health District is a growing, diverse community consisting of seven health departments in south central Virginia. The district begins 23 miles south of Richmond and extends south to the North Carolina state border. With more than 125,000 people with varying health needs living in our district, we work to build resilient communities throughout the cities of Petersburg, Hopewell, and Emporia, as well as the counties of Greensville, Surry, Sussex Dinwiddie, and Prince George.

The Program Support Technician provides services to internal and external clients in a variety of settings within a district. Characteristic activities: provide customer service in manner that identifies the need of the client and how the district can serve them best; accurately process billing invoices, payments, permitting, and reconciliation of overdue balances; implement de-escalation and conflict resolution with irate customers; accurately enters, tracks and conduct data cleanup; coordinate rabies sample submission; process and track Freedom of Information Act requests; provides timely customer service in regards to answering phone calls/ returning phone messages and walk-in clients.
Independently performs technical office tasks in support of a single program area regularly requiring application of policy and procedures. Serves as contact and information resource for one or more programs; serves as lead worker to direct, advise and train others; designs and directs workflow processes; research and processes claims; collects data and prepares reports on program activities. May provide performance input regarding staff to appropriate supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, and customer service
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written
• Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and/or database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax, calculator)
• Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files and/or manuals
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to follow and apply established procedures and applicable policies
