Why does the job exist?

This position is the Medical Director for CYFD/JJS facilities. It provides medical oversight and leadership to clinical staff in the CYFD/JJS facilities. This would include scheduling office hours as needed for clinical coverage. This also requires providing consultation to staff which includes nurses, nurse practitioners, psychiatry, physician assistants, and dietitians. Conduct regular chart reviews and follow up on results as indicated.

How does it get done?

• Provides medical consultation and oversight to programs in the fields of epidemiology, public health, infectious diseases, behavioral health and developmental disabilities;

• Provide specialized medical services including supervision and review of the work of professional mid-level staff engaged in the care of patients;

• Develop nursing protocols;

• Complete peer review of mid-level staff as required;

• Accountable for program delivery and assists in program development;

• Accountable for all required documentation in accordance with medical and program policies, practices and protocols;

• Provides education to internal providers;

• Obtains consultation from external providers as needed to provide clinical care;

• Ensuring standards and protocols include best practices related to health concerns;

• Diagnose, treat, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests and obtains needed specialty care;

• Provide continuous care to client;

• Provider coordinator for VFC program.

Who are the customers?

Provides supervision and review of clinical care to clients in JJS Facilities. The position manages and coordinates patient care throughout treatment, trains and provides consultation to physicians and other internal and external providers.

Ideal Candidate

Preferred Experience in the following areas
• Pediatrician or Family Practice doctor;

• Six (6) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities;

• One (1) year of supervisory experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Minimum Qualification

Requires an MD, licensure and certification to practice in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess a current and valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Clinic setting, extensive computer and telephone usage. Exposure to contagious disease or infectious items. Working with sharp instruments. Continuous reaching, walking and standing. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs. Weekly clinics and on-call for weekdays, weekends and holidays.
