Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Project Accountant who will be responsible for working closely with project teams on the financial administration of multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities.

In this role, the selected candidate will review projects for accurate revenue recognition according to generally accepted accounting practices and provide project analysis and recommendations based on findings. This individual will be working closely with the operations team over the complete life cycle of a project, including the bid preparation phase. Reporting to the Finance Lead, the project accountant will also assist project teams with project set ups and closeouts, monitoring projects for contract compliance, monitoring project performance and key indicators, ensuring that the financial impacts of change orders are reflected correctly in our Oracle and Workbench programs, and supporting monthly close activities.

This position offers a remote work arrangement and can be located anywhere in the US. Candidates must be willing to work between Eastern Standard Time and Central Standard Time.

Job Description Summary
  • Interface regularly with project manager and project delivery team
  • Assist Project Manager with project setup and closeout, monitor projects for contract compliance
  • Monitor project performance and key indicators. Support PM in understanding and assessing project performance, providing recommendations for project performance improvements as required
  • Perform ad-hoc assignments as required to support internal project manager in reviewing and monitoring project performance
  • Participate in monthly project reviews with internal project teams to preemptively identify project issues
  • Monitor and analyze revenue to ensure proper revenue recognition methods used; be able to explain key project metrics and lead indicators.
  • Assist Finance Lead in identifying, tracking, and reporting on projects in financial distress
  • Support Finance Lead in monthly close activities
  • Assist in tracking and elevating aged billed and unbilled receivables
  • Work with other Finance team members in addressing routine and/or technical issues
  • Administration of the project accounting system
  • Ensure proper adherence to internal project accounting policies and procedures
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing documentation as required

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience in Project Accounting or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of experience a plus
  • Prior accounting experience within the AEC industry a plus
  • Prior experience working with a global company a plus
  • Working knowledge of APIC, Oracle, and PM Digital Workbench programs a plus
  • Detail oriented with ability to prioritize work, navigate ambiguity, and meet quick turn-around deadlines with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to produce high-quality analyses
  • Must be able to multitask, work independently with limited supervision, and effectively manage time
  • Work well in a team environment and collaborate with others to accomplish team objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint such as pivot tables and formulas
  • Prior project accounting experience a plus

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $55,000.00 - $80,000.00.
